In the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, CAID’s humanitarian programme has progressively reached out to the most vulnerable people of the country in the earthquake affected districts of Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, and flood prone districts of Banke, Bardiya and Dang through programmes focused on Emergency Relief, Recovery, Early Warning, Disaster Risk Reduction, Protection, Clean Energy, Livelihoods, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Monitoring, strengthening the community resilience and aiming for long term sustainable development.

CAID Nepal country programme is currently in transition from humanitarian to developmental focus post-earthquake recovery programme with key impact areas on (a) Resilience / DRR and humanitarian response (b) Gender Equality and Social Inclusion and (c) Livelihood linked Climate Action and markets.

 

About the role

To work with the Country Director in developing, managing and coordinating Christian Aid’s Country Programme strategy with current transitions from humanitarian to development. PM will be responsible for day to day management of Nepal programme and team, overview of partnerships and grants, guide and line manage programme staff having thematic portfolios, in consultation with the Country Director and support in implementing in the Rolling plan, grants management, funding proposals, liaison with donors (DEC, ECHO, DFID etc) including programme/project reporting. He/she will be acting support to office in the absence of Country Director in country representing Christian Aid at external meetings and office level management.

The post-holder works with team comprising of Programme Officer, MEAL officer, GESI officer, Communication officer and Programme Support Officer and partner organizations to ensure that the humanitarian and development projects is coordinated effectively in line with Christian Aid’s Nepal Country strategy and policies. He/she is the acting office in-charge and representing CA externally in absence of Country Director in country.

 

The post-holder will support Country Director to liaise with Donors (ACT, DEC, ECHO, DFID etc). in the absence of as designated by CD expected to represent Christian Aid at external meetings and also to the media as and when required. Close relationships with partner organizations developed and maintained.

 

About you

  • Degree or equivalent in social science/work/management or relevant technical discipline.
  • Professional management experience of at least 5 years in an INGO with human resource management and team skills.
  • Knowledge and expertise on one of the thematic areas on livelihood (agriculture background), DRR/ Resilience or humanitarian.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of humanitarian and development programme management in the context of Nepal.
  • Experience of handling partnership issues and communications in this relation.
  • Knowledge of global development issues, including policy and advocacy topics and familiarity with emergency problems relevant to country or region.
  • Knowledge of the political, social and economic context of the region and the development issues and challenges it faces.
  • Knowledge of capacity building tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Sphere and Red Cross Code of Conduct, and CHS.
  • Professional experience living and working in a disaster affected country.
  • Experience of strategic planning and management of large and complex budgets.
  • Experience on Public speaking and/or working with the media.

Desirable

  • Relevant post graduate degree in development or humanitarian discipline.
  • Knowledge of the role of churches and ecumenical organizations in relief and development.
  • Experience of advocacy on development and humanitarian issues.
