Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Information Officer, the incumbent serves as the principal press and media advisor to the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and Information Officer (IO). The incumbent has principal responsibility to monitor trends and issues in the Nepali media countrywide and to organize and execute Mission press events. The incumbent prepares, analyses and keeps the IO and PAO informed of significant developments; oversees the post’s countrywide press and media outreach and reporting program. The incumbent plans and directs media programs designed to support and promote USG strategic goals among key audiences. The incumbent deals with the all levels of the media of Nepal, and involves them in Mission activities.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:
Completion of Bachelors degree in Marketing, Journalism, Mass Communication or Social Sciences is required
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of press and media is required. At least one year of supervisory experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of the host country’s media, political, economic, social and educational structure is required. Through knowledge of political parties and key figures in the mass media, government, military, labor and business circles is required. Thorough knowledge of Public Affairs’ information programs, media, public relations techniques and of U.S. foreign policy concerns is required. Knowledge of social and online media sources and blogs in Nepal is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level IV (fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level IV (fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Nepali is required. English language ability will be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to develop and maintain extensive high level contacts in the media, in government and various information circles is required. The ability to use various Windows-based computer applications is required.
Qualifications:
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications and complete a mandatory probationary period of one year for LE Staff.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. The Mission may consider any of the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
2. Current employees of the Mission who have not successfully completed their initial probationary periods are not eligible to apply. Current employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory or MBC score of 100 points or less, on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
3. Current employees of the Mission hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment. This does not apply for employees on a PSA (Temp), or those are hired on a When Actually Employed (WAE) or intermittent work schedule.
