The primary purpose of this position is to provide strategic direction and leadership to OPM’s work on climate change, to build future work and to deliver existing projects and programmes.
• Develop OPM’s work on Climate Change and Disaster Risk in Nepal
• Play an integral part of the work and development of the OPM team in Nepal
• Contribute to the Climate Change and Disaster Risk portfolio and OPM’s work on climate and disaster risk in South Asia and globally
• Contributing to technical delivery of the Policy and Institutions Facility
Main responsibilities
Support the delivery and growth of OPM’s work on climate change and disaster risk in Nepal
• Delivery of technical work on OPM consulting and other projects, across a range of issues, both short-term diagnostic work and long-term climate change reform projects, in support of developing country governments and international aid agencies, in accordance with required delivery deadlines and OPM quality and report writing standards.
• Prepare expressions of interest and proposals for new work opportunities.
• Contributing to the delivery of existing and impact of OPM projects
• Building OPM’s reputation and influence with key stakeholders including the government
• Foster good relations with clients including donor agencies and partner government ministries, taking an active role in developing new areas of work and potential new relationships through existing or new networks and contacts.
Play an integral part of the work and development of the OPM team in Nepal
• Working with the OPM Country Director and Deputy to develop and deliver OPM’s work in Nepal
• Building OPM’s reputation in Nepal including by contributing as required to general business and technical development activities such writing articles and participating in other research and publication programmes as required.
Develop OPM’s work on Climate Change and Disaster Risk in Nepal, and contribute to work across South Asia:
• Develop OPM’s work on climate and disaster resilience in Nepal
• Deliver projects and carry out other tasks under the direction of the portfolio leader in accordance with an agreed annual performance agreement.
• Contribute to the growth of the team’s and the Company’s consultancy business.
• Develop strong and effective working relationships with all other members of the portfolio, Programme and other OPM colleagues.
• Take a proactive approach to on- and off-job personal and career development by working on projects in other OPM portfolio areas, keeping abreast of latest developments within the Portfolio and taking opportunities to attend training events as appropriate.
Contributing to technical delivery of the Policy and Institutions Facility
• Providing technical inputs as required into workstreams of the Policy and Institutions Facility in support of the Core Team
• Supporting the Project Director with oversight and management of the PIF
Undertake other duties reasonably required by the line manager, portfolio leader and Country Director.
Qualifications and experience
• Degree and post-graduate qualification in relevant discipline (for example, economics, environmental economics, development studies) or other appropriate discipline.
• Strong work experience of climate change and/or disaster risk policy.
• Experience of working with government officials and international agencies in Nepal is essential.
• Ideally, a good understanding of project management and experience of managing projects.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing.
• The ability to work in Nepali is a strong advantage.
