The essential emergency numbers every household, traveler, and worker in Nepal should have saved — police, ambulance, fire, and tourist police.
These are Nepal's standard national emergency numbers. They work without an area code from anywhere in the country — save them to your phone now, not when you need them.

112 works from any mobile phone and connects to general emergency services — the one to dial if you are unsure which specific number applies, or in a moment of panic when recalling the right three-digit code is the last thing you want to be doing.

Tourist Police
Nepal's Tourist Police unit (reachable at 1144, with an additional office line at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu: 01-4226359 / 01-4226403) specifically handles visitor-related issues — theft, scams, overcharging, and lost documents — and its officers are trained to work in English. If you are a foreign traveler and something goes wrong that is not life-threatening, this is usually the more useful first call than general police.
If you are working or traveling abroad from Nepal
These numbers only work inside Nepal. If you are a Nepali worker overseas, save your destination country's local emergency number and the nearest Nepali embassy or consulate's contact details before you travel — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains an updated list of Nepali diplomatic missions abroad, and it is worth saving that number specifically, not just a general embassy inquiry line.
A saved number costs nothing. Looking one up during an actual emergency costs time you may not have.
