Organisation Background

Human Development and Community Services (HDCS) is a faith-based NGO working in three main sectors of health, education, and community development since 1991. Currently, it manages various projects across Nepal especially in rural regions and provides services through hospitals, health camps, public health programs, disaster preparedness and response, school development programs, teacher training, educational daycare centres for children with special needs, and community radio stations. Purpose

The Physiotherapist is responsible for assessing the functional needs of persons with disabilities and providing quality facility-based and home-based physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to improve their mobility, independence, participation, and quality of life. The position provides technical guidance, training, coaching, and mentoring to persons with disabilities, caregivers, and family members on rehabilitation, home-based care, assistive device use, positioning, exercise therapy, and home modification. The Physiotherapist facilitates referrals, follow-up care, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation services; collaborates closely with health facilities, local governments, and rehabilitation stakeholders; and promotes the social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities through community-based rehabilitation (CBR) and appropriate livelihood support.

Responsibilities

1. Physiotherapy Assessment, Treatment & Rehabilitation Services (40%)

Conduct comprehensive functional assessments to identify the rehabilitation needs of persons with disabilities.

Develop and implement individualized physiotherapy and rehabilitation plans based on assessment findings.

Provide quality facility-based and home-based physiotherapy services using appropriate rehabilitation techniques and interventions.

Monitor rehabilitation progress and adjust treatment plans to improve mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Promote safe rehabilitation practices and the appropriate use of exercise therapy, positioning, and assistive devices.

2. Case Management, Referral & Technical Support (20%)

Facilitate timely referrals and follow-up services to ensure continuity of rehabilitation and healthcare.

Provide technical guidance on home-based rehabilitation, assistive devices, positioning, mobility techniques, and home modifications.

Coordinate with health facilities and rehabilitation professionals to ensure comprehensive rehabilitation services.

Support caregivers and family members with practical skills to continue rehabilitation at home.

3. Community-Based Rehabilitation, Capacity Building & Disability Inclusion (20%)

Conduct awareness, education, and behavior change activities on disability-inclusive rehabilitation and healthy practices.

Train and coach social mobilizers, persons with disabilities, caregivers, community members, and local stakeholders on rehabilitation and home-based care.

Promote community participation, disability inclusion, and access to rehabilitation services.

Advocate for the rights, inclusion, and participation of persons with disabilities in community development.

4. Stakeholder Coordination & Partnership (10%)

Collaborate effectively with social mobilizers, Project Coordinator, project staffs, local governments, and multidisciplinary teams.

Participate in case discussions and contribute technical inputs to improve rehabilitation outcomes.

Coordinate with health facilities, rehabilitation centers and hospital for rehabilitation outcomes. • Build and maintain effective partnerships to strengthen rehabilitation service delivery.

5. Documentation, Reporting, Compliance & Safeguarding (10%)

Maintain accurate and up-to-date assessment, treatment, referral, and follow-up records in accordance with organizational standards.

Prepare and submit timely reports, progress updates, and project data to the Project Coordinator in compliance with organizational and donor requirements.

Document case studies, impact stories, photographs, videos, and key lessons learned to support project learning and knowledge management.

Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, professional ethics, and quality assurance requirements.

Contribute to project monitoring, organizational learning, and continuous quality improvement through accurate documentation and reporting.

Essential skills

Clinical Rehabilitation & Disability Inclusion: Sound knowledge of physiotherapy, community-based rehabilitation (CBR), disability inclusion, functional assessment, assistive devices, referral mechanisms, home modifications, and safeguarding.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, counselling, behavior change, and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with persons with disabilities, families, communities, and stakeholders.

Planning & Problem-Solving: Ability to plan and organize rehabilitation services, manage field activities, solve problems, and adapt to diverse community contexts.

Stakeholder Coordination & Social Inclusion: Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, health facilities, local governments, and community stakeholders while promoting disability inclusion and cultural sensitivity.

Documentation & Digital Skills: Ability to maintain accurate records of Person with disability, services, prepare reports, and use digital and hard copy both data collection and reporting tools such as KOBO and MS Office.

Collaboration & Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, HDCS staff, health facilities, and other stakeholders to provide coordinated and holistic rehabilitation services. • Cultural Sensitivity: A physiotherapist should be able to engage with and respect local cultures, particularly when working in remote or diverse communities. Cultural sensitivity ensures that treatment plans and rehabilitation activities are tailored to meet the unique needs of the community.

Driving & Field Mobility: Valid Category “A” driving license with at least one year of driving experience and willingness to undertake frequent field travel and home visits.
