📋 About This Role

The Senior Chemist is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, product formulation, quality testing, raw material evaluation, process optimization, and technical support to ensure products meet quality, regulatory, and customer requirements. The role leads product development initiatives, supports production through technical expertise, ensures laboratory compliance, and drives continuous improvement in testing methods and manufacturing processes.

📝 Roles & Responsibilities

1. Product Formulation & Development

Develop, improve, and optimize product formulations based on customer and business requirements.

Conduct laboratory trials, pilot batches, and validation activities for new products.

Evaluate alternative raw materials to improve product performance and reduce costs.

Support new product development (NPD) from concept to commercial production.

2. Laboratory Testing & Quality Control

Perform chemical, physical, and performance testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.

Ensure testing is conducted according to approved methods, specifications, and quality standards.

Review laboratory test reports and authorize product release recommendations.

Investigate non-conforming products and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

3. Process Optimization & Technical Support

Provide technical support to production teams for process improvements and troubleshooting.

Analyze production issues and recommend corrective actions to improve product consistency.

Optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.

Support scale-up activities from laboratory to production.

4. Raw Material Evaluation & Supplier Support

Evaluate and approve new raw materials and alternative suppliers through laboratory testing.

Conduct compatibility and stability studies for raw materials.

Coordinate with procurement and suppliers regarding technical specifications and quality requirements.

5. Documentation & Compliance

Prepare and maintain laboratory records, formulation documents, SOPs, COAs, and technical reports.

Ensure compliance with ISO standards, quality management systems, and regulatory requirements.

Maintain proper calibration and documentation of laboratory equipment.

Ensure laboratory practices comply with safety and environmental regulations.

6. Research & Continuous Improvement

Conduct research on new technologies, raw materials, and industry trends.

Recommend product and process improvements to enhance performance and profitability.

Implement continuous improvement initiatives within laboratory operations.

7. Laboratory Operations & Team Management

Supervise laboratory personnel and assign daily testing activities.

Train junior chemists and laboratory technicians on testing procedures and safety standards.

Monitor laboratory inventory and ensure timely procurement of chemicals and consumables.

Ensure proper housekeeping and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

8. Reporting & Performance Management

Prepare laboratory reports, product evaluation reports, and technical documentation.

Monitor laboratory KPIs and recommend improvement initiatives.

Present technical findings and recommendations to management and cross-functional teams.

🎓 Qualification

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

• ‌Minimum 5–8 years of experience in laboratory operations, product formulation, or quality control.
• ‌Experience in paint, coatings, chemical, construction chemicals, adhesives, FMCG, or manufacturing industries preferred.
• ‌Strong knowledge of formulation chemistry and chemical testing techniques.
• ‌Experience in product development and process optimization.
• ‌Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) and laboratory best practices.
• ‌Familiarity with laboratory equipment, testing instruments, and calibration procedures.
• ‌Understanding of raw material specifications and supplier evaluation.
• ‌Proficiency in MS Office and laboratory documentation.
• ‌Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
