Brief Background: Helen Keller’s Nepal country office relies on a stable, secure information systems environment to support programs delivered across a range of locations, including districts with significant infrastructure challenges. This role ensures that staff have the technology support, network connectivity, and security practices they need to do their work effectively, while working closely with regional and global Information Systems colleagues to uphold organizational standards.

Purpose or Scope of work

The Officer, Information Technology oversees the country office’s information systems, working with regional and global colleagues to ensure network administration, hardware and application management, security, and user support are properly managed. The role requires a broad set of technical, planning, problem-solving, and hands-on support skills, along with the ability to work effectively in low-resource settings that present real infrastructure challenges. Above all, this position supports Helen Keller’s mission by keeping the technology that underpins our programs secure, reliable, and accessible, working collaboratively across a multicultural environment.

Management/ Functional Relationships

This role reports to the Senior Manager, Operations, with a dotted-line relationship to the Senior Manager, Information Technology. It works closely with regional and global Information Systems colleagues and collaborates internally with all Nepal-based staff. Externally, the role coordinates with partner organizations on network connectivity, as needed.

Key Responsibilities/ Specific Tasks

Technical/Programmatic: Maintain and support information system components across Helen Keller’s Nepal offices, including hardware, applications, and network infrastructure, in line with global information systems standards.

Technical/Programmatic: Apply security patches and support security awareness initiatives to protect information systems and prevent security incidents.

Operations/Coordination: Manage information technology service requests through Helen Keller’s Fresh Service platform and coordinate escalations with regional technical support teams.

Operations/Coordination: Coordinate procurement and management of information technology assets across the country office.

External Engagement

Coordinate network connectivity support with partner organizations, as needed.

Skills & Experience

Technical & Leadership Competencies

Strong knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and computer hardware and software systems.

Hands-on experience with network installation, management, and data center governance.

Operational & Functional Skills

Excellent written and spoken Nepali and English language skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, low-resource environment.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field required; or associate/technical diploma with 4+ years of directly related experience.

3–4 years of relevant professional experience in an Information Technology support role, with a background in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related discipline.

Working Conditions/ Travel

Travel expectations: Occasional travel to district offices within Nepal to support network connectivity and hardware needs.

Work environment: Office-based role in a low-resource setting that requires adaptability and hands-on problem-solving.

Safeguarding responsibilities: Adherence to Helen Keller’s Code of Conduct and safeguarding policies.

Language requirements

Fluency in Nepali and English, written and spoken.
