Job Description

Established in 2009, YUWA is a registered not-for-profit, purely youth-run and led organization that promotes youth participation through empowerment and advocacy. YUWA was born out of a group of committed youths, unofficially working in this sector since 2005. The initial focus was to develop the leadership skills of the youths involved, to train as youth activists, and to advocate for change, thus resulting in a wide and diverse array of knowledge, skills, and experience in this sector. It led to the realization of the seriousness of youth issues and the need to act, which finally took the shape of YUWA.

YUWA currently works in three thematic areas: Active Citizenship, Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Research Unit

Communication, Documentation, and Learning Department

The Communication, Documentation, and Learning Department at YUWA is a cornerstone of the organization’s mission to enhance communication, document project activities, and foster a culture of continuous learning. This department plays a crucial role in shaping the narrative of YUWA’s impactful work, ensuring effective documentation of projects, and facilitating knowledge sharing within the organization.

The Communication, Documentation, and Learning Department is dedicated to facilitating transparent and impactful communication both internally and externally. It oversees the development and implementation of communication strategies, the meticulous documentation of project activities, and the promotion of a learning culture across YUWA. It collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, including program officers, the creative department, and other relevant teams within the organization. Additionally, the department engages with external stakeholders such as donors, partners, and policymakers to enhance YUWA’s visibility and reputation.

Communication, Documentation, and Learning Assistant

Job Responsibilities

Communication Strategy

Maintain YUWA’s social media content calendar and digital content creation across all YUWA platforms.

Assist in formulating and executing internal and external communication strategies.

Collaborate work within the communication department to evolve goal-oriented communication plans.

Ensure learning outcomes are thoughtfully included in new programs and strategically disseminated.

Cultivate creative strategies to engage YUWA’s target beneficiaries effectively.

Help YUWA in integrating knowledge, learning management, and preserving institutional memory into their every project, activity, report and strategy.

Build and sustain relationships with donors in accordance with YUWA’s partnership values.

Conduct frequent meetings with the team members as specified in the project details, document and disseminate the meeting learnings.

Social Media Responsibilities

Develop visually striking designs for social media posts that strictly adhere to YUWA’s branding guidelines.

Collaborate with team members to gather images, logos, stats, and content for infographics and social media posts.

Support in Design, Dissemination and Integration of Quizzes, Evidence Generation survey-sheets, and Social Media Engagement Plans as part of, and to inform program activities.

Implement analytics and reporting mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of social media efforts.

Branding and Design

Ensure that all publications, annual reports, research, reports, and products strictly adhere to the established branding guidelines.

Innovate and create ideas for print, electronic, web-based, and animated presentations.

Produce creative audio-visual materials for social media and websites, showcasing proficiency in video editing and animation.

Design reports and communication materials for both print and electronic distribution, incorporating a diverse range of formats such as banners, posters, booklets, leaflets, calendars, bulletins, and flyers.

Develop customizable templates for various purposes, including presentations and business cards, using industry-standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).

Conduct a meticulous review of final visual designs, ensuring accuracy and strict adherence to YUWA’s branding guidelines.

Coordinate with team members to collect images, logos, statistics, and content for infographics and social media posts.

Attend meetings and be engaged in content which will increase positive PR of YUWA in accordance with YUWA values, mission and vision.

Undertake photography and videography responsibilities at all official YUWA events, maintaining a consistent visual style aligned with the organization’s brand.

Additional Tasks

Execute tasks delegated by the supervisor or management, ensuring prompt and effective completion.

Perform any other duties as assigned relevant to the scope of the role.

Contribute to and participate in organization-wide tasks, such as staff meetings, staff capacity development activities, annual retreat, evaluation and planning meetings, staff representation at Annual General Meetings, intern/volunteer/visitor orientation, and others.

Minimum Qualifications and Transferable Skills

Bachelor’s degree (ongoing or completed) in media studies, mass communication, journalism, gender studies, social work, and other relevant subjects with excellent command of Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, and video editing tools.

Proven skills in photography and videography, and technical operations related to communications.

Proficiency in multimedia format and ability to align with overall branding guidelines.

At least one year of internship experience in graphic design, content creation, and creative field is preferred although freshers are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in designing software tools, including graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign) and video editing software, is expected

Background or experience in creative storytelling or strategic communication is a plus.

Reporting Lines

The Communication, Documentation, and Learning Assistant will report to the members of the Executive Board who will oversee the communication department.

Working Relationships

The Communication, Documentation, and Learning Assistant will establish and maintain effective working relationships with the program department and work in coordination with program coordinators and other team members.

Contract: The contract will be a fixed-term contract for 12 months, with a three-month probation period. This will be a full-time position.
