Role Description
The Staff Writer is a full-time, on-site role based in Kathmandu. The writer will contribute to Nepal Connect’s editorial coverage by developing well-researched, engaging stories on Nepal’s development, society, culture, economy, and international engagement.
The role involves identifying and pitching story ideas, conducting research and interviews, writing and editing articles, and working closely with the editorial team to develop stories from concept to publication. The Staff Writer will also be responsible for fact-checking, verifying sources, and ensuring that all content meets Nepal Connect’s standards for accuracy, clarity, context, and editorial quality.
The role may include attending events, engaging with experts and external contributors, and adapting published stories for digital platforms and social media. The ideal candidate is a curious and independent storyteller who can identify meaningful stories, bring context to complex issues, and write for an informed, international audience.
Qualifications
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging, and well-structured articles.
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather, assess, and verify information from diverse sources.
- Ability to identify and pitch original story ideas relevant to Nepal and its evolving role in the region and internationally.
- Strong interviewing and communication skills, with confidence engaging with experts, officials, researchers, and community members.
- Excellent command of written English, with strong attention to grammar, structure, tone, and editorial detail.
- Familiarity with Nepal’s social, political, economic, cultural, and development landscape.
- Understanding of digital publishing and audience engagement, including adapting editorial content for online and social platforms.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with editors, writers, and external contributors.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple stories and meet deadlines in a fast-paced editorial environment.
- A degree or relevant background in journalism, communications, political science, international relations, media, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in journalism, editorial work, content creation, research, or media is an advantage.
