Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and manage MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, SQLite, and other database systems.

Monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and overall health, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues.

Perform database performance tuning, SQL query optimization, indexing, execution plan analysis, partitioning, and capacity planning.

Design and manage database backup, recovery, disaster recovery (DR), and high availability (HA) solutions.

Configure and maintain database replication, failover, and redundancy mechanisms.

Implement and maintain database security practices, including user access management, permissions, encryption, patching, and security controls.

Automate database administration and operational tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Shell scripting, or Python.

Support production database environments and provide Level 3 technical support for critical database issues.

Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for database incidents and implement preventive and corrective actions.

Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, version upgrades, and infrastructure changes with minimal service disruption.

Collaborate with Development, Infrastructure, DevOps, Cloud, and Security teams to ensure reliable and scalable database operations.

Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, backup policies, recovery plans, and technical standards.

Participate in database capacity planning and contribute to the design of scalable database architectures.

Ensure database environments comply with organizational security, availability, and performance requirements.

Required Skills & Technical Expertise

Hands-on experience with MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and SQLite.

Strong knowledge of SQL optimization, indexing, execution plans, partitioning, and database performance tuning.

Practical experience with database replication, high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.

Experience working with AWS RDS and cloud-based database environments.

Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments.

Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, Shell, or Python.

Experience with database and infrastructure monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Zabbix, SolarWinds, or Redgate.

Strong understanding of database security, access controls, encryption, patching, and vulnerability management.

Experience with database migration, upgrade, and maintenance activities in production environments.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, incident management, and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

4 years of hands-on experience in Database Administration, preferably in production environments.

Proven experience managing enterprise or high-volume database systems.

Experience designing and implementing high-availability and disaster recovery architectures.

Experience handling critical production incidents and performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with additional database technologies such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server.

Knowledge of cloud database services and infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and containerized environments.

Experience with database observability, alerting, and automated monitoring.

Relevant database or cloud certifications are a plus.
