BAGMATI WELFARE SOCIETY NEPAL (BWSN)

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Bhotekoshi Flash Flood Response-2026

Duty Stations: Nuwakot Districts, Bagmati Province

First Publication date: 09 September 2026

Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal (BWSN) is a women-led and youth-led feminist organization established in 1995 in Sarlahi, Nepal. For thirty-two years BWSN has worked in the districts where public systems arrived last, and currently works across 201 local levels in Madhesh, Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali and Bagmati Provinces. Its work is organized around three pillars — People, Planet and Power: human wellbeing and social development, climate resilience and biodiversity, and inclusive governance and civic engagement.

The Response

On 26 August 2026, an ice-rock collapse near the Nepal–China border blocked the Lhende Khola. The lake that formed behind the blockage breached and sent a flash flood down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. There were no rainfall and no warning, and the Syabrubesi gauging station was destroyed in the flood. The Government of Nepal has declared 15 local levels across five districts disaster crisis-hit for three months under Section 32(1) of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, 2074.
