Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced QA Engineer – Automation Focused who can independently own and manage the QA function across our growing digital product ecosystem.

This role is not limited to executing predefined test cases. The successful candidate will plan testing activities, identify quality risks, develop and maintain automation, manage regression and release testing, handle defects independently, and work directly with engineering and product teams to improve overall product quality.

We are looking for demonstrated professional experience in a real production environment. Automation experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. QA Ownership & Test Planning

• Independently manage QA activities for assigned products and releases.
• Prepare test plans, scenarios, test cases and regression suites.
• Perform functional, integration, system, sanity, smoke and regression testing.
• Identify critical business flows and prioritize testing based on risk and impact.
• Participate in requirement and technical discussions to identify quality risks early.
• Validate releases before deployment to staging and production.
• Maintain QA documentation and test evidence.
• Track and report quality metrics, defect trends and release readiness.

2. Test Automation

• Design, develop and maintain UI and API automation frameworks.
• Automate critical regression and repetitive test scenarios.
• Build reusable test utilities, fixtures, functions and modular test components.
• Develop reliable end-to-end tests for complex business workflows.
• Maintain and improve existing automation suites.
• Identify and reduce flaky tests through proper synchronization, selectors and test-data management.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Continuously improve automation coverage and execution efficiency.

3. API & Integration Testing

• Test RESTful APIs and service-to-service integrations.
• Automate API validations including status codes, response schemas, business rules and data integrity.
• Validate authentication, authorization mechanisms and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Test negative scenarios, error handling, retry mechanisms and edge cases.
• Validate JSON payloads and API contracts.
• Use Postman, REST-assured or equivalent automation frameworks.

4. Defect Management & Root Cause Analysis

• Identify, document and track defects throughout the defect lifecycle.
• Clearly communicate defects with reproducible steps, expected results and actual results.
• Perform retesting and regression testing after defect fixes.
• Analyze application behavior, API responses, logs and network requests to assist in identifying root causes.
• Work closely with developers and product teams to resolve quality issues.
• Monitor defect leakage and recurring defects and recommend preventive actions.

5. Database & Data Validation

• Validate backend data using SQL queries.
• Verify data consistency between frontend, APIs and databases.
• Validate transactional workflows and data integrity.
• Investigate discrepancies between expected and actual application data.

6. Performance, Reliability & Security Testing

• Conduct basic load and performance testing for critical application workflows.
• Use JMeter, k6 or equivalent tools where appropriate.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and report findings to the engineering team.
• Perform basic security testing for common OWASP-related vulnerabilities.
• Validate authentication, authorization, session management and token expiration.
• Inspect HTTP requests and responses using Burp Suite or equivalent tools.
• Participate in production issue verification and release validation.

7. QA Process Improvement

• Identify gaps in existing QA processes and recommend improvements.
• Establish practical testing standards and checklists.
• Improve regression coverage and reduce repetitive manual testing.
• Contribute to QA automation strategy and CI/CD quality gates.
• Promote quality ownership across Product, Engineering and QA.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 3–4 years of professional experience in Software Quality Assurance / Software Testing.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage QA activities for a product or project.
• Strong hands-on manual testing experience.
• Practical experience with test automation.
• Strong understanding of functional, sanity, smoke, regression, integration, system and API testing.
• Experience with defect lifecycle and defect tracking tools.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and JSON.
• Working knowledge of SQL for database validation.
• Good understanding of Git and version control workflows.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Ability to analyze logs and debug failures systematically.

Automation Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is expected

• Selenium
• Playwright
• Cypress
• Appium
• API automation frameworks

Experience with Python, Java, JavaScript or TypeScript-based automation is an advantage.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• React / React Native application testing
• Mobile automation using Appium or similar tools
• Performance testing using JMeter, k6 or similar tools
• Basic Docker knowledge
• OWASP / security testing exposure
• Microservices testing
• Cloud-based testing environments
• Experience in startup or product-based technology environments

What We Expect

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of QA rather than wait for instructions. The candidate should be able to independently plan and execute QA activities, determine what needs to be tested and how deeply it should be tested, identify high-risk areas, maintain regression coverage, take responsibility for meaningful automation, communicate clearly with developers and product managers, and investigate failures instead of simply reporting them.

Demonstrated Experience

The selection process may include a technical discussion, practical assessment and scenario-based questions. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate how they have handled real QA problems in professional environments, including:

• Designing a regression strategy for a production product.
• Deciding what should and should not be automated.
• Investigating intermittent or flaky automation failures.
• Testing an API beyond checking its HTTP status code.
• Identifying critical production risks before release.
• Handling a release when critical defects remain open.
• Working with developers to investigate and resolve defects.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
