About Company
Germany has commissioned the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to support the Ministry of Health and Food Safety (MoHFS) to implement the Nepal Health Sector Strategic Plan (NHSSP 2023-2030) and the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Strategy (GESI). Aligned with these strategies, two bilateral projects - S2HSS-II and S2GESI - are implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), together with the partners of all three levels of Nepal’s health governance, federal, provincial and local, and key health-sector institutions. The programme strengthens the capacities of health authorities, including MoHFS, Health
Insurance Board and six partner municipalities in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim Provinces and works closely together with the respective stakeholders. Important measures include social health protection, gender responsive health planning, support to digital transformation and health information systems, the healthy city approach and strengthening good governance at local level, including civil society engagement. The program also provides medium- and long- term support to selected municipalities in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, affected by the September 2026 flash floods. Together, both projects aim to strengthen the health system and its governance and to improve equitable access to quality health services.
