Job Description
Sterling Wells Nepal is the operational hub of a UK-based group of chartered certified accountancy firms and fintech companies, including UK Property Accountants, Sterling & Wells, Crane & Partners, FigsFlow, RentalBux, Taxule, and PropertySPV. We support thousands of clients across 50+ countries and oversee accounting for $8B+ in assets.
We are looking for a Finance Incharge to run the complete finance function of our Nepal office in Kathmandu. This is a full-time role in Finance & Accounts, responsible for making sure every rupee is planned, approved, recorded, and reported properly.
What you’ll own
- Monthly budgets and cash-flow forecasts, including timely approval, fund requests against the approved budget, and monthly tracking of actual spending with explanations for major variances.
- Bank balances, petty cash, and staff advances, ensuring advances are settled on time.
- Payment approvals that are within budget, supported by proper bills and documents, and signed off as per set authority limits.
- Purchase controls, including quotation rules, fair pricing, confirmation that goods or services are received in full before payment, and records of suppliers, contracts, and payment terms.
- Accurate and up-to-date books of account, ledgers, bank reconciliations, and the fixed asset register.
- Monthly MIS reports for management with clear notes on key figures, and annual financial statements prepared under NFRS/NAS.
- Income Tax, VAT, and TDS returns and payments with the Inland Revenue Department, and annual filings with the Office of the Company Registrar under the Companies Act, all within due dates.
- Statutory, tax, and internal audits, support for periodic Group transaction reviews, and prompt closure of audit findings so issues do not recur.
- Leadership, guidance, and training of the finance team, acting as the main finance contact for management, auditors, banks, and tax offices.
- Continuous improvement of internal controls, finance policies, checklists, and accounting systems, with a focus on reducing manual work and speeding up month-end closing.
This is a hands-on role, suited to a senior accountant who already does this work today and is ready to take full ownership of it.
What we need
- Master of Business Studies (MBS), semi-qualified CA, or an equivalent qualification.
- 7+ years of experience in finance and accounts, currently handling budgets, payment approvals, purchase checks, and tax compliance in a medium or large organisation.
- Experience working under a formal approval system, where payments require sign-off as per set authority limits; this is essential.
- Strong understanding of NFRS/NAS and Nepal’s Income Tax, VAT, and TDS rules.
- Proficiency with accounting or ERP software and advanced Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliation work.
- Confidence presenting and explaining numbers to senior management.
- Clear written and spoken communication in Nepali and English.
- Ability to lead a small team and meet strict deadlines.
Who you are
- Disciplined and careful with details.
- Ready to say no when a payment falls outside the budget or approval limits.
- Honest and trustworthy with confidential information.
- Willing to take full ownership of your work.
What makes this role different
- This is not a routine bookkeeping role; you will own the complete finance function of the Nepal office.
- You will be the main finance contact for management, auditors, banks, and tax offices.
- You will work within a UK-based international group and support Group-level transaction reviews.
- You will have the scope to shape internal controls, policies, and processes, not just follow them.
What we offer
- Competitive salary package based on experience and qualification.
- Access to Sterling Wells Academy, LinkedIn Learning, and structured development programmes.
- At least one month of total working time dedicated to training and development annually.
- Five-day working week, with Saturday and Sunday off.
- Daily office lunch, paid annual leave, and sick leave.
- Accident and medical insurance coverage.
- Regular team-building activities and cultural events.
If you are a senior accountant who is ready to take full ownership of a finance function, not just process transactions, this is your role.
Apply with your CV and a brief note on how you currently manage budgets and payment approvals.
