Job Description

Project Officer- Kathmandu, Nepal

The Project Officer will report to the Project Manager.

Job responsibilities and accountability

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. Working with media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people, our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. Our work in Nepal is focused on innovative media and communication initiatives that are strengthening democracy, supporting media ecosystems and tackling information disorder - while supporting communities to prepare for, and adapt to, extreme climate risks.

BBC Media Action Nepal Office is seeking potential applicants for the position of “Project Officer”.  The ideal candidate will work full time for a project which aims to improve how weather and climate information is communicated and used by different audiences. The project focuses on ensuring that forecasts and climate related information are clear, practical and actionable. By strengthening communication between climate scientists, journalists, government authorities and local communities, the project supports last mile users to better understand and respond to weather and climate related risks.

“The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.”

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer is responsible for helping to ensure that project activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to the desired standards. The responsibilities include systematically tracking and monitoring project activities, coordinating project activities, maintaining and organising project documentation, helping compile project progress reports and contributing to the design and planning of new projects and new business development initiatives.
