DAI seeks a Support Staff for the USAID Tayar Nepal Improved Disaster Risk Management Project.

Detail Scope of Work:

Position: Support Staff (Cook-1, & Cleaner-2)

Level of Effort: One Year Full-time, Fixed Term Contract, with possibility of extension until the close of the project

Period of Performance: on/about December 1, 2019 – November 30, 2020

Base of Operations: Kathmandu

Project Background:

USAID/Nepal’s Tayar Nepal – Improved Disaster Risk Management Project will strengthen the capacity of Nepal’s national and municipal institutions responsible for disaster preparedness and response.  In a country prone to a myriad of natural disasters, at the national level Tayar Nepal will build the capacity of disaster risk management (DRM) institutions, including the newly created National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).  Locally, Tayar will support eight urban municipalities to develop risk-sensitive land use plans and then support the prioritization and implementation of a set of technical assistance packages improve disaster resilience. In the event of a disaster over the life of the five-year project, USAID/Nepal may engage the program’s rapid emergency response mechanism. Tayar will work closely with the Government of Nepal and Nepali emergency responders to mobilize technical assistance, commodity support, small-scale infrastructure, and information management support. Tayar will apply lessons learned from disaster response efforts to improve national-level DRM systems and municipal-level risk-reduction activities.

Summary of Support Staff –Cook (1)

The Office Support Staff (Cook) will be responsible for cooking the food for staffs in KTM, cleaning office premises and keeping facilities neat and clean.

Essential Duties 

  • Prepare daily lunch for office staff in Kathmandu.
  • Responsible for coordinating supply needs, shopping for supplies, etc.
  • Keep record for the cost of the food intake by the staff (staff contribution).
  • Provide cleaning in Kitchen areas, cabinets, refrigerator, microwave, etc.
  • Prepare tea/ coffee for staff and visitors.
  • Sweep floors, clean windows and throwing the trash on a daily basis.
  • Assist other Support Staff on keeping the office clean and organized.
  • Ensure security measures such as locking doors and closing windows before and after office close.
  • Continuous monitoring of the cleanliness of facilities and other equipment.
  • Perform sterilization procedures such as boiling rugs and other cloths.
  • Ensure project facilities are neat and clean all the time.
  • Informs the Front Office Associate for the need of extensive repairs and other major renovations in the work area or office.
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum School Leaving Certificate passed.
  • At least 3 years work experience as a cook.
  • Good working knowledge in speaking/reading/ writing in English is required.
  • Good knowledge of recipes for preparing food is required.
  • Able to maintain good working relationships with team members while retaining high levels of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Good communication skill is required.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Prepare tea/ coffee for staff and visitors.
  • Wipe down desks and chairs and make sure it is neat and clean.
  • Sweep floors, clean windows and throwing the trash on a daily basis.
  • Assist other Support Staff on keeping the office clean and organized.
  • Ensure security measures such as locking doors and closing windows before and after office close.
  • Continuous monitoring of the cleanliness of facilities and other equipment.
  • Perform sterilization procedures such as boiling rugs and other cloths.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in restrooms and other places in the building.
  • Ensure project facilities are neat and clean all the time.
  • Informs the Front Office Associate for the need of extensive repairs and other major renovations in the work area or office.
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years work experience.

Location and Reporting:

The Support Staffs will be based in Kathmandu and will report to the Front Office Associate.
