With the establishment of its Embassy in Nepal in August 2009, Switzerland’s assistance in Nepal continues to focus on federal state building, employment and income through agriculture, rural infrastructure and vocational skills, as well as migration. Switzerland is committed to support Nepal in the process of political and social conflict transformation as well as peace building at local and national level.

The National Programme Officer (NPO)
Short-term Contract (January to July 2019)
As a member of the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) and, under the line management of the Programme Manager, the National Programme Officer will support in the quality assurance of the SDC’s migration programme. The NPO will support the Supervisor in project cycle management (planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting) of the two projects Migrants Rights and Decent Work Project and Safer Migration Project. The NPO ensures that the project cycle is managed timely and that the planning and implementation of projects are of high quality. He/She contributes to the formulation of strategies and to the annual programmes. In the contacts with partners and authorities, the NPO represents the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and assures that the communication is coherent with SDC’s and Federal Department of Foreign Affairs’s principles and strategies.
Required Technical Competence
- Master’s degree in Public Policy and Governance or Social Science and any other relevant academic fields; 3 years of practical work experience in international cooperation; Knowledge in Migration as well as of public sector governance/public administration/ federalism reform in Nepal; Proven skills and experiences in project management including monitoring; Experiences with the analysis of political, social, economic and cultural circumstances and their application in development programmes; Proficiency in spoken and written English and Nepali languages.
Required Methodological / Social Competence
Conceptual and analytic abilities, methodological competence, project and process management in an intercultural context; Responsibility and ability to work independently, ability to make decisions and to implement them in a goal and result oriented manner; Communication and making contact, good team player, networking and negotiation skills, ability to deal with criticism and conflicts; Intercultural sensitivity and communication, sensitivity for gender questions.
