FHI 360, an international non-governmental organization (NGO), is recruiting a highly qualified and dynamic candidate for the expected United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Civil Society and Media Project (CSM) in Nepal as Civil Society Specialist.

Position: Civil Society Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY
The Civil Society Specialist is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of all civil society activities under the CSM project. S/he provides technical assistance to national and sub-national stakeholders to develop and effective use a variety of civic engagement and social accountability tools.  The Civil Society Specialist develops effective strategies to improve CSO and citizens’ ability to effectively communicate priorities, expand participation among marginalized groups, and amplify the demands of popular movements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
> Support the design and implementation of activities in areas such as CSO organizational capacity development, and CSO training in evidence-based advocacy and oversight, government engagement, and social accountability mechanisms;
> Support the design and implementation of CSM grant streams related to policy, advocacy, social accountability, and inclusion.
> Develop technical assistance and mentoring strategies to support national and sub-national civil society actors to improve their ability to effectively utilize participatory approaches and mechanisms to improve CSO relevance and effectiveness.
> Contribute to the development of strategies to improve civil society relationships and engagement with local government, enabling CSOs to work in partnership with local government officials addressing issues of accountability and tolerance;
> Support the development of tools to equip CSOs to better engage with local governments, including talking points, roundtable consultation strategies, public-private working group approaches, etc.;
> Contribute to the management of effective civil society grants program portfolios, including solicitation design, monitoring of grantee performance, and ensuring the delivery of appropriate capacity building linked to grants.
> Contribute to project performance reports and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of civil society activities
> Work with the Communication Specialist to document partner project success stories for knowledge sharing, reporting, and replication;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
> Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, social sciences, public administration or relevant field;
> Minimum of four (4) years’ experience designing and implementing civil society or organizational capacity-building activities is required; Experience in the democracy and governance sector is desirable;
> Solid knowledge of the Nepali civil society sector is required;
> Experience working and building relationships with government officials at the national and sub-national level around policy reform issues is highly desirable;
> Prior experience with advocacy campaigns, influencing public policy and monitoring government performance, and gender equality and social inclusion is preferable;
> Knowledge of USAID regulations is preferable;
> Proven interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with diverse and multidisciplinary teams;
> Oral and written fluency in English and Nepali required;
> Knowledge of other local languages is preferred;
> Travel to Nepalgunj and project target sites required.
