Peace Corps Nepal places American Volunteers in two-year assignments in rural villages and peri-urban locations across the country.
The United States Peace Corps seeks a Food Security Program Specialist (FSPS) to serve as a full-time, long-term personal services contractor based in Kathmandu.
The Food Security Program Specialist will:
- Technical Field Support: Facilitate field observation of Food Security Trainees and Volunteers during Pre-Service Training (PST), In-Service Trainings, and site visits, and use coaching skills to provide clear feedback rooted in evidence-based practices related to food security, agriculture, bee-keeping, nutrition education, and small income generation activities as identified by project framework
- Training Design and Delivery: Assist Food Security Program Manager (FSPM) in the design and delivery of technical sessions during training events and incorporates principles of the experiential learning cycle into training practice.
- Volunteer Site Management: Assist FSPM to identify and assess placement sites for Volunteers, recommend Host Country Agencies and homestay families that meet the criteria for Volunteer placement, and ensure that receiving organization, host families and community understand the Peace Corps program and are adequately informed and oriented to host a Peace Corps Volunteer.
- Site Network Support: Travel regularly and extensively within the country to visit Volunteers, observe their work, and establish and maintain working relationships with regional and local networks.
- Safety, Security, and Well Being: Collaborate closely with the Safety & Security Manager (SSM) and medical staff during site identification trips and field visits to ensure minimum housing standards and health requirements are met, and assist in gathering any background information necessary in the process of determining the safety, security, and well being of Volunteers.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties or assignments, when deemed necessary by the Country Director or designee, for the successful implementation of Peace Corps program(s) and/or operations in Nepal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: University Bachelor’s degree in a Project-related subject (Health, Agriculture, Education), or Social Sciences, Development, Public Administration, or Management.
Language Proficiency: Professional oral and written English and Nepali proficiency
Prior Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of related grassroots, community development experience in Nepal
- Computer proficiency in MS Office: Windows, Excel, Word
- Detail-oriented and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural team
- Strong written and oral communication skills
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: University Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Food Security. A Master’s Degree in a related subject
Prior Work Experience:
- Experience in a cross-cultural setting with American or international organizations
- Experience with organizations that achieve their mission through volunteerism preferred
- Experience providing direct technical support on fruit tree, ginger, turmeric, and mushroom cultivation
- Experience in bee-keeping, nutrition education, and agriculture-based small income generation activities also preferred
