Position: Information Technology (IT) Specialist

Job Description

RTI International is seeking Information Technology (IT) Specialist candidate for Act to END Neglected Tropical Diseases | East program. Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases | East is a five-year program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that supports national governments to reach their control and elimination goals for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) through proven, cost-effective public health interventions. Act to End NTDs |East (2018-2023) is led by RTI International, with a consortium of partners including The Carter Center, Fred Hollows Foundation, IMA World Health, Light for the World, Results for Development, Save the Children, Sightsavers, and WI-HER.

The IT Specialist is responsible for the management of IT needs of Act to END NTDs | East program including systems installation, maintenance support and technical consultations to end-user, and provision of day-to-day IT support to staff. He/ she is responsible for ensuring the standard set by the RTI GTS Home Office are followed and that the most efficient and effective IT solutions are applied. He/she is also responsible for the maintenance of Act to END NTDs | East program website in coordination with the Act to END NTDs | East Head Quarter communication team when necessary and deal with local IPS for necessary IT requirement of Act to End NTDs | East office.

Specifically, the responsibilities of the IT Specialist include maintaining the LANs (Local Area Network) and WANs (Wide Area Network) of Act to END NTDs | East program office and staff out stationed of Kathmandu. He/ she must also ensure regular and proper back-ups are done, antivirus and disaster recovery procedure are implemented, and end-users have access to the network for shared files, wireless access, printers, and emails.

This position is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The IT Specialist will coordinate and report to Act |East Nepal Finance and Grants Manager for daily operations, and matrixed to GTS Asia Regional Manager for compliance with RTI IT guidelines, regulations, and technical matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide IT-related infrastructure and system support to Act to END NTDs | East program including internet access, firewall, network devices, file/database server, printers, backup systems and other IT-related support tasks.
  • To maintain server at Act to END NTDs | East program, including:
  • To ensure Windows Server and other software are maintained and that patches are promptly applied on all servers
  • To check Windows update status on the server and report to GTS Asia Regional Office on a weekly/ monthly basis
  • To ensure that McAfee antivirus (both the engine and signature files) are kept up to date
  • To ensure data is backed up and maintained in accordance with RTI GTS policies and procedures
  • To maintain spare parts and carry out hardware repairs and restoration
  • To provide support in matters related to PC software and its peripherals (Win10 Pro, Mac OSX, MS Office 365 package, McAfee Suite, McAfee FDE, QuickBooks, Adobe products, etc.) including:
  • To ensure Windows, Mac OSX and other software are maintained and that patches are promptly applied on all computers
  • To ensure the McAfee anti-virus software is installed; and both, the engine and signature files, are kept up to date
  • To ensure data is backed up and maintained in accordance with RTI GTS policies and procedures
  • To ensure that only licensed software is installed on each end-user’s computer. Every new installation must be reported to GTS Asia Regional Office.
  • To provide user support on hardware-, networking- and software-related issues
  • To install and manage the configuring and troubleshooting of laptops/ desktops/ printers/ scanners and other IT related equipment
  • To serve as the first port-of-call for the maintaining of network infrastructure including ISP, router and ethernet switches for Act to END NTDs | East program
  • To review and advise IT procurement to ensure equipment compliance with RTI standards
  • To assist risk acceptance submission in case of non-compliance with RTI standards
  • To resolve or escalate critical support for account activation/deactivation, firewall problem, access to RTI systems (email, RAMS, Connect, etc.)
  • To maintain the IT inventory management and conduct physical checks on a regular basis
  • To evaluate IT products/ services whenever required
  • To support the integration of appropriate technologies (such as mobile phones, tablets, GIS, etc.) into Act to END NTDs | East program activities and maintenance of project website (as needed)
  • To perform other IT related duties as required

Required Qualifications and Experience

Master’s degree in Computer Science and 3 years of experience or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or and 6 years of experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting and troubleshooting a wide range of IT Infrastructure systems (Windows PCs, servers, printers, scanners, backup devices and networks or similar work environment in in multiple locations
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Windows 10 Pro, Mac OSX, Windows Server 2016/ 2019, Office 365 (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, OneDrive, SharePoint, MS Teams), McAfee Suite, McAfee FDE, Pulse Secure, Adobe products
  • Having skills and knowledge in developing and maintenance of website and database system
  • Demonstrate experience in troubleshooting network issues
  • Knowledge of Veritas Backup Exec and Veritas DLO is considered and asset
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills and fluency in English.
