Research Officer

Job Purpose:

Helen Keller Intl aims to develop a thorough comprehension of the existing barriers that hinder access to assistive technology (AT) in Nepal. Furthermore, the organization seeks to foster consensus among key stakeholders regarding the necessary long-term strategy and investments needed to tackle the identified needs effectively. With this effort, it is expected that a more knowledgeable, organized, and dedicated constituency for AT services will be formed, leading to the establishment of an enabling environment. This environment, in turn, will facilitate the generation of sustainable investments, cultivate political will, and garner government commitment to enhance access to AT in Nepal.

Helen Keller International is seeking a Research Officer (RO) to support the Research Manager (RM) to conduct analysis of the assistive technology (AT) situation for Nepal. The RO will support execution of the AT-Assessment Capacity (ATA-C) assessment tool developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and summarize findings from Rapid Assistive Technology Assessment (rATA), Systematic Assessment of Rehabilitation Situation (STARS) assessments, and relevant research studies. In addition, the RO will support in engaging key AT stakeholders in Nepal and conduct workshops and meetings.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in executing ATA-C assessment.
  • Desk review of rATA, STARS assessment and findings from relevant studies.
  •  Support in mapping of relevant stakeholders.
  • Planning and implementation of workshops and meetings with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with stakeholder, line agencies, and other partners.
  • Prepare technical brief, success stories, and any other documentation of the assessment.
  • Ensure accurate and timely record keeping, reporting, and budget allocation for the program in to meet the project compliance.
  • Represent the meetings, workshops, and conferences as per need.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Educational Degree:

  • Master’s degree in public health or nutrition or social science and should have sound knowledge in the field of disability, assistive technology.
  • Work experience and skills
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in disability or assistive technology sector along with the disability advocacy
  • Working experience in research-based organization and data analysis skill.
  • Ability to write /produce the program reports & articles for publication.
  • Willing and able to travel various remote places of the program.
  • Work experience in disability sector and assistive technology.
  • Communication skills:
  •  Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Good written and spoken skills in Nepali and English languages.
  • Demonstrated technical depth required in at least one of the following areas of public health.
  • research methods, empirical data collection and analysis, experience in supervising survey teams preferred and in training interviewers/enumerators required.

 Flexible and multitask:

  • An ability to maintain balance when under stress.
  •  Skills to manage multiple team and partners with strong organizational and self-management skills.
  • Experience using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and other software:
  • Computer literate and proficient with automated and integrated Research packages.

 Others

  • Excellent coordination and communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders including implementers, government officials, and other collaborators.
  • Experience in working with government district offices and likeminded INGOs.
  • Confident and with good diplomatic skills to deal with higher authorities.
  • Able to undertake extensive travel in two-wheeler with valid license.
