JOB PURPOSE:

  • Implement national Human Rights Education strategies and activities for the Human Rights Education work and projects in Nepal, which forms part of the education for change through a worldwide human rights education programme.
  • Support coordinated actions at the national, regional and international levels in liaison with Amnesty International Nepal (AI Nepal), external partners and networks, in order to ensure maximum impact.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To implement Human Rights Education strategies in line with AI Nepal campaign strategies and goals including establishing linkages with schools, colleges and universities and government agencies to ensure HR is explicit in the curriculum;
  • To conduct and facilitate various forms of human rights education using multi-media to staff, members, supporters, target groups and other human rights stakeholders;
  • To develop educational resources related to Amnesty’s human rights program and/or campaigns that can be used or adapted by others within and outside Amnesty;
  •  To train members, volunteers, interns and supporters to become human rights trainers and advocates;
  • To secure various materials from local and international sources including international treaties, covenants and agreements on Human Rights relevant to HRE work;
  • To stay up-to-date on relevant national and international developments on Human Rights issues and update members, supporters and network of AI Nepal;
  • To coordinate with the Campaign Coordinator and the Media and Communications Coordinator to integrate Human Rights Education in their respective plans and activities;
  • To assist all coordinators in developing and updating modules for skills training in their respective areas of work;
  • To ensure that the whole Amnesty Nepal organization is regularly informed about developments and priorities in the HRE program;
  • To provide written reports to the Section Director and other internal and external stakeholders as requested by the Section Director;
  • To assist the Section Director in identifying potential donors for the HRE projects and developing proposals ensuring the compliance of Amnesty International fund-raising process and policy;
  • To attend relevant meetings and conferences in Nepal and internationally as agreed with the Section Director;
  • To develop realistic and appropriate production and activity budgets for the consideration and approval of the Director;
  • To manage the portfolio of work within the agreed budget and keep accurate track of expenses;
  • To report any changes or deviations in the agreed budget immediately to the Director for consideration and approval;
  • To perform any other task as designated by the Section Director.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in law/Human rights, social science, political science or related field.

Experience:

  • At least three years of relevant working experience in a human rights organization with sufficient knowledge of the substantive human rights issues;
  • Proven track record in a field such as members moblization and or public administration;
  • Ability to manage changing or conflicting priorities and operate effectively within a demanding work environment;
  • Demonstrated understanding of current issues of human rights education in Nepal and worldwide;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and tailor content for different audiences;
  • Ability to coordinate and motivate members in a team and generate and maintain the team spirit;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in both oral and written English and Nepali.
