Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor

Work Location: Nepal – Kathmandu
Employee Duration: Active Full-Time

CARE seeks a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor for the anticipated USAID-funded Integrated Nutrition Activity in Nepal. The purpose of this project is to improve the quality of nutrition and health services – and specifically maternal, newborn, and child services by strengthening health and nutrition policies and programs targeting women of reproductive age and their children under 5.

The GESI Advisor will provide strategic leadership and technical guidance on gender and social inclusion in and across the program activities ensuring that gender, social inclusion, and disability considerations are mainstreamed into programs and policies. S/He will S/he will develop, adapt, and apply strategies, guidelines, and tools to ensure that gender equity and diversity are appropriately analyzed, identified, and addressed in program and policies, providing strategic support to the program team in building and strengthening their capacity. S/he will closely work with program and M&E team members for the development of gender and social inclusion and disability-responsive responsive monitoring systems and mechanisms.

Location: Nepal

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build capacity of government and program team (from CARE and Consortium members), partners, and other stakeholders in gender and social inclusion and governance enhancing their skill in delivering GESI initiatives and integrating GESI and governance across program activities.
  • Develop, adapt, and apply tools and strategies for mainstreaming gender and social inclusion and disability considerations into programs and policies in the nutrition and health sector.
  • Conduct gender and social inclusion analysis and support in incorporating the findings into project planning, budgeting, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Provide required support to develop GESI-sensitive policies, plans, and procedures for all components of Integrated nutrition activity in Nepal
  • Contribute to design and participate in formative research on GESI and disability related to household, community, and health systems.
  • Develop mechanisms and processes for scaling up successful practices and results related to gender equality, social inclusion, and disability
  • Conduct monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities from a gender and social inclusion perspective including impact measurement, and lead/support documentation of gender equality and social inclusion-related outputs, outcomes, and lessons.
  • Establish partnerships with government line agencies, project partners, market actors, and other relevant stakeholders for the effective implementation of gender and social inclusion interventions.
  • Coordinate and strengthen networks of gender and social inclusion focal institutions/experts including donors, partners, civil society, and non-government organizations
  • Develop learning briefs and position papers capturing the best practices and recommendations on mainstreaming GESI in all project components.
  • Lead/Support policy discourse and advocacy on the issues relating to gender and social inclusion

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in social science, gender studies, women studies, or other relevant fields with 5–8 years of relevant experience (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of gender and social inclusion issues with demonstrated expertise in GESI mainstreaming in the health and nutrition sector
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement gender and social inclusion and action plans
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of participatory accountability tools and approaches
  • Experience in conducting in-depth gender-based research and analysis, including community led-participatory assessment/analysis
  • Excellent skills in capacity strengthening of organization and individuals in GESI issues
    Experience working with USAID (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diversity of stakeholders and strong coordination and facilitation skills
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills in English and fluency in Nepali
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as evidenced in previous management positions and programming. Demonstrated commitment to PSHEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Harassment, and Abuse)
