Community and Rural Development Society Nepal (CARDSN) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization working in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts of Nepal since two decades. CARDSN in partnership with OXFAM is implementing various projects in different rural municipalities of Nuwakot. Recently CARDSN in partnership with OXFAM has a potential or upcoming project named “Transformative Change for Women and Adolescence girls”
The potential or upcoming project requires human resources for the following positions:
Position: Senior Gender Officer
Job Location: Battar Nuwakot with frequent field visit at project site
Contract Period: Till Feb 15th 2021 with the possibility of extension
About project:
Purnima is a five-year programme funded by UK Department for International Development (DFID) The objective is long-term positive change in the lives of people in earthquake-affected regions of Nepal. To achieve this goal, Purnima has ambitious targets for transformative change of women and adolescent girls (TCWAG). Transformative change is an approach to promote women as change agents, empower them to raise their voice and address gender inequality. It is a process of challenging and changing unequal power relationships, tackling discriminatory social norms, and engaging with political structures, actors and ways of working to transform the lives of women and girls.
Job purpose:
To lead in implementation of transformative change for women and adolescent girls project in project operation areas. Uunder guidance of Executive director, the post holder plans, implements and monitors transformative change for women and girls related program at field level.
Reporting Lines:
Post holder reports to: Program Director
Staff reporting to this post: Gender assistant
Key responsibilities:
• Lead and Implement transformative change for women and adolescent girls’ project activities
• Take lead to organize district- community level training, workshop and meetings
• Participate as organizational representation and coordinate with relevant inter agency to agree and develop coordinated framework and mechanism within the field location
• Prepare & submit the final concept notes, monthly report and progress report by coordinating with the Gender Assistant
• Supervise and provide technical support to Gender Assistant and reflect facilitators for the implementation of the activities
• Work closely with Oxfam to ensure planned activities are achieved in time and report as required
• Mentor and coach the office teams in gender and take session on gender and protection as per required
• Frequent field visits and support Gender assistant to conduct meeting with community groups to build awareness on the issue of citizenship and legal documents
• Ensure the proper implementation of the activities and target fulfilment
• To ensure that gender specific indicator and activities are developed in all programs
• Take lead to organize exhibition and mobile camps at community and mobilize the community resources
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor process and outputs ensuring that all opportunities for gender empowerment are being taken and prepare field visit reports as per the standard
• Sex, age and caste based disaggregated data are collected and documented
• Perform other tasks as necessary in agreement with reporting manager as required
Qualification, Skills and competence:
• Bachelor degree (preferably Masters) in Science / Humanities / gender studies with 3 years of experience in gender and/or social sector
• Experience and understanding of community mobilization in relation to gender and women empowerment activities
• Have sound knowledge on gender and legal rights issue
• Proven experience of successful capacity-building of field staff and team
• Strong planning, analytical and strategic thinking skills
• Self-management skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities
• Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
• Strong communication and documentation skills, Good levels of spoken and written English.
• Travel frequently to program locations, sensitize sector agencies on gender and women legal rights. mobilize the project staff, related stakeholders and beneficiaries to fulfill the intended objectives according to project document
• Ability to work in multi-cultural team across different geographical locations, including providing remote support to field teams/ when required
• High level of adaptability and initiative
• Represent organization at different levels of meetings, workshops, and other forum as and when necessary
