Danish Red Cross ECHO Project Manager, Nepal

Danish Red Cross (DRC) engagement in Nepal takes its point of departure more than 20 years ago. We focus on people and communities living in fragile settings or who are marginalized and excluded.

The overall purpose of our ECHO Project Manager is to support the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) in management and implementation of ECHO-funded projects (DRC-led FbA-SRSP project and the new STRONG project) in consortia with Movement and Non-Movement partners in close coordination with other ECHO partners and key stakeholders.

The ECHO Project Manager reports to and works in close coordination with the Danish Red Cross Country Manager, also based in Kathmandu, who is responsible for the overall management of DRC’s Project portfolio in Nepal. The DRC Nepal team is an agile team with a flat management structure where project silos are mitigated by a flexible sharing of knowledge, resources and tasks in between projects and taskforces.

Responsibilities

The ECHO Project Manager refers to the DRC Country Manager in Nepal (CM) and the main areas of responsibility are:

  • Project Development & Implementation (60%)
  • Project Monitoring and evaluation (15%)
  • Partnership and Capacity Development (10%)
  • Financial Management (10%)
  • Reporting (5%)

Expected key results:

  • Project objective and outputs realised as described in the Project documents and agreed with the DRC Country Manager
  • Capacities of the NRCS in Project management and focus technical areas strengthened as agreed with the NRCS and the DRC Country Manager
  • Contributed to DRC Country Office overall objectives
  • Partnership with the NRCS and partners developed in line with country strategic priorities and agreements
  • Consortium partners inputs including technical support of Consortium delegates effectively managed
  • Contributed to overall DRC FbA/SRSP learning and innovation

The main tasks include:

  • Day to day management of our ECHO funded projects
  • Team leader for our Fba/SRSP team
  • Strengthen relations and cooperation with NRCS management
  • Liaise and ensure cooperation with relevant RCRC Movement partners, donors, EU ECHO, international organisations and other stakeholders
  • Development of new projects
  • Operational Management of disaster response as per needs

Required experience and qualifications

You have a relevant academic background, e.g. Master Degree in Development studies, Project Management, Disaster Management or other relevant field, with:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in working with humanitarian organisations in developing, emergency and post-emergency contexts
  • Technical expertise within Disaster Management (Preparedness, Anticipatory Action, DRR and/or Emergency Response) and good understanding of Organisational Development
  • Experience managing ECHO projects
  • Experience with team leading and staff/team management
  • Experience on resource mobilisation with major donors/funds including EU/ECHO
  • Experience on programme development and implementation
  • Experience from the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is a strong asset
  • Working experience from Nepal or South Asia is an advantage
  • Excellent communication, coordination, networking and facilitation skills
  • Results oriented, patience and cultural sensitivity skills
  • Full proficiency in English speaking and writing is a requirement
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office

Employment Conditions

The starting date is August 1st 2022. The contract period is 24 months.

The duty station is Kathmandu, Nepal. The position is a family position. Frequent travel to project areas is required.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the DRC Terms and Conditions for Delegates on Long Term Missions. The salary including all allowances and pension will be between DKK 43.500 to 46.000 per month, depending on qualifications and experience. Housing and insurance is covered by DRC.
