Position: Environment, Health, and Safety Analyst

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal

The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Analyst is an exciting opportunity at DAPL to create, enable and improve health and safety practices and resiliency in the workplace and community. DAPL provides advisory and management services to Dolma Fund Management, which has invested in private sectors in Nepal. Dolma’s portfolios include renewable energy projects, healthcare projects, and tech companies. The H&S Analyst will report to Head of Sustainability and will work as a cross-functional team supporting the sustainability unit, investment team, and portfolio companies to enhance H&S practices.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, implement and improve EHS standards and practices at Dolma responding to the international standards for environmental and social sustainability and health and safety.
  • Maintain compliance of portfolio companies, with the applicable local laws and international regulations and standards such as the IFC Performance Standards and World Bank EHS Guidelines.
  • Assist EHS consultants and DAPL Head of Sustainability in conducting EHS assessment and due diligence of investee companies and recommend improvement action plan.
  • Monitor ongoing EHS risks and follow up with investee companies under the overall guidance of the Head of Sustainability.
  • Support Dolma’s investee companies in developing EHS management plans, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Job Safety Analysis, and support in building capacity of investee companies.
  • Monitor EHS practices of investee companies and review reports and key risks.
  • Support investee companies in developing and managing community EHS risks associated with the companies’ operations including emergency preparedness and response plan.
  • Review budget and bid documents to ensure that adequate resources and capacity is allocated to manage EHS risks internally and externally.
  • Assist investee companies in identifying and managing hazardous materials and waste and disposing of it correctly.
  • Ability to conduct/review root cause analysis of any EHS/OHS incidents, recommend remedial action plan, and undertake necessary follow up.
  • Establish and have oversight of EHS committee for the Fund and the investee companies

Experience and Qualifications

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree and internationally recognized H&S certification with 3-5 years’ experience in H&S.
  • Training and experience in international H&S standards, primarily in renewable energy or construction is highly desirable.
  • Experience in conducting H&S assessment and developing and monitoring management systems.
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively in English and Nepali.
  • Travel required across Nepal to potential and existing project locations frequently.
