Context
The UN Youth Volunteer (HR support associate) will support the coordination and execution of the full range of human resources functions for the FAO country office in Nepal. He/she will ensure quality, transparency and consistency of data and processes within his/her area of responsibility and contribute to the smooth functioning of human resources operations. The UN Youth Volunteer will be mentored and trained to acquire requisite knowledge and interpretation of human resources policies, procedures and practices for FAO/UN.
Task description
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative, and the direct supervision of the Assistant Representative (Administration), and as part of the Administration team, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Support in initiating a range of personnel actions such as appointments, ex-tensions, separations etc.;
- Assist in analysing, and processing a variety of human resources requests re-lated to entitlements and benefits;
- Support the briefing and de-briefing of staff related to FAO HR policies, guide-lines, rules and regulations, in collaboration with the administration team;
- Draft correspondence, reports and statistics related to all human resources functions as appropriate;
- Assist in maintaining and updating confidential personnel information, records and files; ensure completeness and accuracy of records and relevant follow-up actions are taken in the system;
- Support in investigating and resolving payment inquiries in collaboration with finance staff;
- Support in gathering new updates related to HR policies and procedures from FAO’s system, orient and providing guidance to other human resources sup-port staff in project offices;
- Participate in the preparation of training materials and delivery of training to administrative staff in the Organization; and
- Perform other duties as required.

Age : 18 – 26
Additional eligibility criteria : This assignment is funded by the Government of Sweden and therefore specific criteria apply:
– Candidates must be Swedish nationals.
– Candidates must be 29 years old or below at the time of application.
– Application deadline: 27 February 2022 (note: this is one day prior to the advertisement end date). Candidates are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible, well in advance of the deadline.
– Candidates may apply to a maximum of three assignments per advertisement and indicate the order of preference in the ‘Additional remarks’ section.
– Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment. Interviews will be conducted by the UN Host Entity between 21 March and 8 April.
– Prior to deployment, selected candidates will attend a mandatory preparation training from 13 to 17 June organized by Sida.

Living conditions and remarks
Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, lies under the Phase 1 of the UN Security classification, but is subject to change depending on the development of the security situation. Living conditions in Kathmandu are good. Comfortable inexpensive flats (furnished and unfurnished) are available in Kathmandu. Both imported and local foods and clothing are abundantly available. There is a short supply of water while it is also not safe to drink without treatment. Public transport is easily available and generally reliable though traffic congestion is extremely high. Kathmandu has a moderate climate with coldest temperature reaching just above zero at the night during the winter and mild but humid during the monsoon period, mid-June to end September.
