DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION / REQUIREMENTS:

Driver

Overall Responsibilities:

The main duties of this position will be to drive MSH/MTaPS project vehicle for project purposes following the guidelines, maintain vehicle logbook, and be responsible to ensure the project vehicle is functioning properly.  S/he will follow the project guidelines, maintain vehicle log book, ensure vehicle maintenance, planning each route based on road and traffic conditions and other tasks as assigned.

S/he will be expected to maintain MSH’s professional integrity standards in all activities.

Routine Check-up of Vehicle (25%)

  • Maintain a checklist before starting and closing of the vehicle on a regular basis; check the assigned vehicle properly as per MSH rules of vehicle inspection before starting work and ensure cleanliness of the vehicle; maintain all equipment allocated to the vehicle is completed and in good working order, including spare tire and communications equipment, before undertaking any journeys IN ORDER TO ensure safety of the assigned vehicle.

Driving (25%)

  • Drive the vehicle with caution ensuring safety of passengers; drive any means of road transportation/vehicle for the project; maintain safe use of the vehicle assigned to him; abide by Nepal Highway Code Traffic Regulations; and also maintain MSH driving rules and transport policies; undertake only journeys that are authorized by the appropriate PIs/authorities; operate controls for loading and unloading of goods; undertake irregular work schedules, long trips and be ready to perform in short notice for assignment of a trip; handle all types of obstacles and equipment related to vehicle; perform any other related functions assigned by the supervisor IN ORDER TO ensure effective driving service to the assigned area.

Maintenance of Vehicle (25%)

  • Perform maintenance check-up of vehicle on a regular basis; ensure the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders; schedule regular car service appointments and report any issues; drive light vehicle with identification and solve minor problems; maintain the vehicle in proper working condition; report all faults, maintenance needs and incidents/accidents to the concerned person IN ORDER TO ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle for better performance

Logbook and Paperwork (20%)

  • Complete trip tickets, keep record of fuel consumption, run hour, mileage on a regular basis; maintain the vehicle log books and sheets on a regular basis; update all necessary paperwork related to the vehicle (insurance, fitness etc.) IN ORDER TO ensure smooth operation and movements.

Others (5%)

  • Any others task as assigned by supervisors and managers

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • SEE passed or equivalent

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2-4 years of experience in driving with valid driving license
  • Valid four-wheeler (Category A and B) driver’s license
  • Clean driving record with no traffic violations
  • Five years of experiences in driving

Preferred

  • Good English conversant applicant will be preferred
  • Familiarity with GPS devices
  • Prior experience working with international organizations or USAID-funded projects preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and safety issues
  • Knowledge of minor vehicle repair, identification of mechanical & electrical troubles and ability to lift heavy loads
  • Knowledge of understanding of Nepal Highway Code Traffic Rules, Regulations
  • Knowledge of basic automotive maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of dealing effectively and patiently with others
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems
