Padhnako lagi Kotha (PLK), the sole official Implementing Partner of Room to Read (RtR), was established in 2022 with a mission to provide better educational opportunities in Government funded community school of Nepal by focusing on Literacy and Gender Equality in Education.
PLK invites applications from interested Nepali citizens for the following positions:

Position: Officer, Information Technology (IT)

Number of Vacancies: 1
Job Location: Kathmandu

Position Overview:

The Officer, IT will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of IT, including planning, implementing, monitoring, and quality assurance of IT policy and equipment in line with the digitization strategy of the organization at the country office and district offices. The Officer, IT will be constantly engaged in collaboration with the Head of Operations and Administration department to improve and deliver quality IT services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The position will require performing the below-given job responsibilities not limited to:

Development & Planning

  • Formulates general policies and procedures pertaining to the organization’s information technology and is responsible for administering those policies within the organization.
  • Develops in-country IT policy in coordination with the Global Office (GO) and Head of Operations.
  • Develop a rollout and implementation plan for the country’s digitization strategy in coordination with global counterparts and the Head of Operations

Implementation

  • Manages and leads the planning of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, computers, software, and telephones in Country Office (CO), District Offices (DO), and Field Unit(s).
  • Supervises and implements the country’s planning for information technology. Develops and implements in-country IT policy in coordination with GO and the Head of Operation.
  • Supports contextualizing, rollout and implementing the country’s digitization strategy in close coordination with global counterparts.
  • Administers Windows-based servers, Active Directory, file sharing, and permissions.
  • Develops and implements simple information systems for programs and support to enhance the information system.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains documentation of all computer systems and coordinates with the Administration department in managing IT-related equipment such as Laptops, Multimedia, tablets, IT accessories, etc.
  • Coordinates IT infrastructure enhancements of Nepal offices with the Global Office IT team.
  • Tracks all computer hardware and software assets in a centralized database in coordination with the Head of Operations.
  • Leads Nepal Office as a focal person for centralized global database programs introduced by GO and becomes familiar with the software management to carry out regular training programs for other users.
  • Conducts periodic data backup of the country server.
  • Provides desk support and maintenance of IT equipment/accessories.
  • Leads the market survey for IT equipment and provides technical input and recommendations for procurement.
  • Provides support to the RM&E team in collecting research data through tablet and helps resolve technical issues like syncing, data loss, and mobile data during the data collecting and retrieving process.
  • Provides in-house training to all colleagues on technological change(s) and helps them maximize the use of IT infrastructure.
  • Responds promptly to service requests and server issues from colleagues and generate a case of service requests to upload them in (Global Solution Database) GSD.
  • Administers office365 as an administrator and disseminates the office 365 users’ level implementation to all colleagues.
  • Provides in-house support to changing technologies adopted within the organization like iOS support, system support on Android-based applications, etc.
  • Builds a strong and efficient computer network in each district office so that colleagues at all levels can use the organization’s system effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordinates with Country Management Team (CMT) and Administration department in determining the way that information technology best meets the organizations’ needs in a cost-effective manner.

Networking & Advocacy

  •  Manages client relationships with IT consultants available in the Nepalese market as required.
  • Participates in IT related meetings, workshops, exhibitions, symposiums, etc. offered by other organizations.

Reporting

  • Submit quarterly reports to the Head of Operations on IT progress and challenges related to all the offices in Nepal.
  • Provide IT audits and reports to the Head of Operations and GO IT team.
  •  Generates cases of IT issues, record the issues, solves those at the earliest, and report to the GO IT team on crucial cases.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degrees in information technology, MIS, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Experience in designing, managing, and troubleshooting Microsoft Active Directory
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in IT and Database with I/NGOs or private sectors
  • Must possess expert skills in office365 administration
  • Have ample knowledge and skills in cloud-based technology and have implemented cloud-based online data backup
  • Understanding of IP networks and IP addressing
  • Ability to design complex networks
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of network and computer equipment
  • Knowledge of POP, SMTP, DNS (and DDNS), DHCP
  • Skilled in security design and support (including virus protection)
  • Ability to install VPN and technology using Microsoft and Cisco hardware and software
  • Able to configure, monitor, and manage firewalls including Cisco and Sophos
  • Ability to manage the provisioning of telecom circuits
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Nepali
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to learn new things for self-development
  • PLK has zero tolerance when it comes to child abuse and exploitation and believes that all children have equal protection rights. The colleague will be expected to adhere to the child protection policy, code of conduct and standards

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degrees in information technology, MIS, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • Have a certificate in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and CCNA
  • A professional appearance and demeanor
  •  Excellent management and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and follow-through
