Position: Project Coordinator – School Leadership and Management (SLaM – (2000068U)

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 2: either the post holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or the post holder will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).

ROLE PURPOSE:

Save the Children is the leading independent organization for children. We save children’s lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfill their potential. We work together, with our partners from civil societies and government, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. We reached approximately two million populations and invested over 70 million US dollars in 2016 to reach more children than ever before, through programs in Health, Nutrition, Education, Protection and Child Rights and Governance, Livelihood, HIV and AIDS, and Humanitarian crises.
The Project Coordinator- SLaM is responsible for implementing all the SLaM activities of the project. This pilot project targets 14 schools of Gurans Rural Municipality, Dailekh. The position holder will contribute to the overall design and be responsible for implementation of activities related to school leadership and management. Moreover, the position holder will be responsible for collecting quantitative and qualitative data, thoroughly documenting project implementation and results, and effectively communicating findings to all stakeholders. The position holder will need to work in close coordination with Sahayatra – II project team based in Gurans. Similarly, the position holder will work closely with SLaM task force members; SCN representative, InformEd (consultant for the pilot project) representative and CO based Education Advisor and MEAL Manager.

Role Dimensions: Save the Children works in 57 districts of Nepal and nationally in Bhutan with a current staff complement of approximately 300 staff and current expenditure of approximately $US 30 million each year.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

• Participate in relevant training/orientation program to be organized while implementing project activities
• Contribute to SLaM annual plan and align monthly plan of action.
• Implement the interventions designed in field and keep record of progress status regurally
• Provide technical inputs in designing data collection tools, research activities, methodology by working closely with international consultant (InformEd)
• Collect both qualitative and quantative data from field as and when required.
• Conduct regular meetings with head teachers, teachers, SMC members, local government representatives and other stakeholders.
• Keep record of all the process documentation, update regurally and share with task team members
• Document lessons learnt, challenges and case studies from SLaM project schools
• Ensure the documentation and data collection comply with the SC and donor requirements
• Regular field visits to the schools to observe the emerging trends and responses to the project interventions so as to identify potential approaches for effectiveness of SLaM approach
• Facilitate the training / capacity development interventions in SLaM project schools as well as municipality level
• Work closely with the SLaM task force of CO and FO for the decision making process.
• Prepare periodic narrative reports to ensure the project achievements are well documented and articulated properly

OTHER

• Other tasks as requested by the supervisor
• Support Save the Children Humanitarian responses where appropriate/if needed, ensuring timely and quality responses in line with international standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s Degree in Education or Research Studies, Development Studies, Social Work, or related Social Sciences

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years (2 years for GSI group). Experience in designing and implementing education projects related to schools including research, and experience of working closely with the government will be an added advantage

Skills

• Skills to lead qualitative and quantitative research, including the design, data collection, data management, and analysis of the research
• Has ability to adopt innovation in the program
• Higher degree of taking initiatives and has ability to work independently
• Sound computer skills on word processing, power-point, and other basic computer software
• Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, able to work in short deadlines with intense pressure
• Proficiency in writing research report, and other documentation in English and Nepali
• Strong interpersonal communication and facilitation skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across stakeholders and task team in both English and Nepali.
