Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading organizations in the psychosocial and mental health field. It was established in 2005 with the aim of promoting psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.
TPO Nepal is leading a research project to test a psychological intervention (talking therapy). The project is funded by UK Research and Innovation and aims to evaluate interpersonal therapy for adolescents with depression through a cluster-randomised controlled trial. The therapy will be delivered in secondary schools in Chitwan.
TPO Nepal is looking for an exceptional candidate to coordinate the field-based research component of the project, with the possibility of a distance PhD at King’s College London using project data. The candidate will have skills in qualitative and quantitative research and be ready to supervise a team, plan and manage data collection, and conduct analysis.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with UK and Nepali investigators to plan, pilot, and implement research
- Supervise research activities including recruitment of study participants, training for research assistants, coordination of consent during assessments, and meetings with participants and their family members.
- Oversee the overall implementation of the research and support junior researchers in the field through daily field visits
- Help to produce high-quality research outputs for a range of audiences including analysis, manuscript preparation, report writing, and presentations where necessary
- Assure ethical compliance with the Nepal Health Research Council and programmatic compliance with the Social Welfare Council and other relevant stakeholders
- Participate in and lead some aspects of data analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), academic publication writing and conference presentations
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Master’s degree in Public Health, Anthropology, Global Health, Psychology or other related fields
Technical: Minimum of five years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research, data analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), and implementation of mental health research among children and adolescents
Experience
- Experience using qualitative and quantitative research approaches
- Experience in mental health research, particularly with adolescents
- Exceptional research and analytical skills
- Involvement in randomised controlled trials
- Experience designing, implementing and conducting field research and managing a team
- Experience writing manuscripts for publication in international journals
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali
