MEAL Expert in Kathmandu
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Kathmandu, Nepal. The position is paid according to WHH paygrade.
The MEAL Expert is responsible for the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning system of the Welthungerhilfe Nepal office as per Welthungerhilfe standards, ensuring efficient information and data management, improving data quality, strengthening knowledge sharing, promoting accountability and learning process across the organization, with partners and other stakeholders.
Your responsibilities
MEAL system development and implementation
- In cooperation with the Head of Programmes, lead the further development of the MEAL system in the country.
- Define specific MEAL processes and methodologies and promote the design and implementation of tools and approaches for MEAL as well as reporting in line with WHH MEAL requirements.
- Manage and supervise the MEAL department in the country and the national staff.
- Ensure quality of MEAL assessments, monitoring and evaluations, and in the implementation of MEAL tools.
- Maintain regular communication with MEAL field team for supervision, follow up and technical support.
Programme Quality
- Collaborate with and advise MEAL, programme and partners’ teams to mainstream M&E in project implementation and program development.
- Provide technical support to MEAL team regarding database management, data collection, analysis and reporting, and ensure that the required data is collected in an accurate way and with the appropriate data resources.
- Supervise the implementation of MEAL studies and prepare/review reports with qualitative and quantitative findings (baseline, endline, evaluations, etc.).
- Support the project team and partners in extracting lessons learnt and good practices, and documenting case studies which demonstrate qualitative and quantitative changes.
- Participate to field visits and data collection for MEAL activities and report accordingly.
Accountability
- Provide consistent and quality FCRM, PDM and onsite accountability reporting for all projects.
Capacity building
- Train MEAL, programme and other relevant staff as required about MEAL processes, methodologies and tools (qualitative and quantitative research, data collection, development of log frames, indicators and MEAL plans, MEAL studies, etc.).
- Facilitate the capacity building process of partners for effective MEAL through training and coaching.
Coordination and Networking
- Maintain regular communication with MEAL Advisor and MEAL department in HQ to ensure WHH Nepal Country Office is compliant with WHH standards, and that new methodologies, databases, or tools are promptly implemented.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in a field related to project management, international development and/or social sciences or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years professional experience as head of department/MEAL Expert
- Fluency in both spoken and written English is essential
- Experience in designing and implementing surveys, assessments and evaluation of projects/programme, incl. excellent reporting and writing skills; previous experience in setting up a MEAL department will be an asset.
- Proven technical knowledge and capacity in sampling methodologies, data analytics and statistical analysis and well as in data bases such as Kobo, CommCare, PowerBI and/or other data software.
- Proficiency in MS Office Excel, Word processing, Power Point
- Experience with Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) and accountability framework
- Experience in working with international donor agencies or INGOs will be an asset
- Preference will be given to candidates having experience in WASH, nutrition and/or agriculture sectors.
