Position: Water Quality Associate

DUTY STATION : Kathmandu

Salary : Lump sum package of NPR 117,707 .00 per month (Taxable)

The World Health Organization (WHO), Nepal invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates to fulfil the position of Water Quality Associate.

Purpose of the Position:

The objective of the position is to support WHO Nepal’s environmental health programme in planning and implementation of activities related with water quality, climate change and health, coordinating with relevant government counterparts, water utility operators and others, supporting monitoring, and preparing the progress reports accordingly.

Summary of assigned duties:

Under the supervision of National Professional Officer- Environment Health (HSS) and overall guidance of the Public Health Administrator and WHO Representative to Nepal, following duties will be performed:

• Provide technical support to plan, develop, implement and follow up various activities on water quality, climate change and related health issues.
• Support to liaise and coordinate activities in developing and implementing climate resilient water safety planning (CR-WSP) in various parts of the country especially related with development and maintaining of water quality monitoring mechanism in ten CR-WSP projects.
• Support Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM) on collection of water quality data, its periodic review and technical reporting with recommendation for improvement.
• Coordinate with Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) under Department of Health Services (DoHS) for water quality surveillance activities.
• Assist government agencies and other water utility operators to conduct water quality monitoring and data management.
• Support to organize capacity building activities on water quality monitoring, surveillance, use of different equipments, operation of water quality labs, climate change and health related issues at national and sub-national levels.
• Provide on-site support on use of water quality test and other water quality lab equipment.
• Support DWSSM/EDCD on preparation of water quality related Standard Operating Procedures (SoP). • Support DWSSM to operate/establish central water quality lab and labs at provincial levels.
• Involve in operation of mobile laboratory vans in case of emergency.
• Support for gathering, recording and reporting of information and data related with water quality surveillance and on related activities of the project “Delivering climate resilient WASH in Africa and Asia”.
• Provide contribution to report writings including the development of presentations, and other communication activities, as well as liaise with local stakeholders.

Education Qualifications:

Essential:

University degree in micro-biology, chemistry, public health or a closely related field.

Desirable: Advance University degree in one of the above mentioned fields and training in issues related to water quality and Climate Resilient Water Safety Plan (CR-WSP).

Experience:

Essential:

At least 3 years of experience in of working in environment health program related to water quality, including practical experience on water quality surveillance activities including water quality testing and climate change and health issues.

Desirable: Experience working on water quality testing lab. Experience of supporting the WHO supported project implementation especially inter-sectoral projects or programs.

Other Considerations:

• Work is performed in normal working environment.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Application suite and modern office software packages such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.) and standard office equipment.

Additional information:

• A written test/interview may be used as a form of screening.
