The Nutrition Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for the nutrition programmes/Programmes within the Country Programme, from development planning to delivery of results. In doing so, the incumbent implements a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of results.

How can you make a difference?

1. Support to programme development and planning

• Ensure the availability of accurate, complete and up-to-date information required for effective Multi-Sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive) and Programme design, addressing gender and social inequalities and determinants of gender and social equality where relevant in implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation. Draft sound Multi-Sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive), budgets for review by the supervisor,
• Prepare required documentations and materials to facilitate the programme review and approval process.

2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results.

• Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and partners to discuss operational and implementation issues of Multi-sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive). Provide solutions, recommendations and/or alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level intervention and/or decision-making. Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
• Enhance Programme efficiency and effectiveness through implementation follow-on, including gender-and age-specific monitoring UNICEF inputs, local conditions and resources, flow of supply and non-supply assistance and Multi-sector Nutrition Programme status (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive), especially in the priority districts.

3. Technical and operational support to programme implementation

• Ensure the appropriateness of financial, administrative and supply documentation; verify that Multi-Sector Nutrition Programme expenditures are withi allotments and that data is consistent with the Programme information and database (e.g. FLS, VISION). Follow up on queries or initiate corrective action on discrepancies.
• Conduct regular programme field visits and surveys, and exchange information with partners and stakeholders to assess progress and provide technical support. Take appropriate action to resolve issues and/or refer to relevant officials for resolution. Report on critical issues, bottlenecks and potential problems for timely action to achieve results.
• Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners, and other country office partners/donors on the application and understanding of UNICEF policies, strategies, processes, and best practices on nutrition-related issues to support programme implementation, operations and delivery of results.

4. Networking and partnership building

• Compile Multi-sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive) implementation training and orientation materials to promote knowledge sharing with donor and media.
• Ensure the effective communication and networking developed and maintained through multi-sector partnership and collaboration, with particular emphasis on understanding gender inequalities and on issues or discrepancies in financial or supply management.
• Collaborate with Operation staff to implement internal controls system and resolve day-to-day issues or discrepancies in financial or supply management
• Team with local Government counterparts to exchange information on Multi-sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive) implantation and status as well as movement and distribution of supplies.
• Coordinate with members of the development community, including NGOs, UN and bilateral agencies in the exchange of information relating to Multi-sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive).

5. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

• Identify, capture, synthesize, and share lessons learned for knowledge development of Multi-sector nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive) and to build the capacity of stakeholders.
• Apply innovative approaches and promote good practices to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results of Multi-Sector nutrition Programme.
• Research, benchmark and report on best and cutting edge practices for development planning of knowledge products and systems.
• Participate as a resource person in capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients and stakeholders on Multi-sector Nutrition Programme (nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive).

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• A university degree in one of the following fields is required: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, or other relevant discipline (s)
• A minimum of two years of professional experience
i)Developing country work experience in Nutrition field
ii)Background/familiarity with Emergency
iii)Experience in monitoring gender inequalities and in mulit-sector programming interventions that reduce the disparities.
• Fluency in English and Nepali language is required.
