Description of the National Costume of  Miss Universe Nepal, Manita Devkota

It is believed that Goddess Avalokitesvara observes or gazes down at the world to relieve the suffering of others, protect people from danger, and grant blessings to the children. She is the perfect picture of grace, calm, forgiveness, and power.

In the dress, the embroidery depicts own symbols and meaning. For example, Dharma wheels symbolize the ” Eightfold Path” which is the key concept of Buddhism. Similarly, Dragon represents the power of creativity, heaven, and good fortune.

Lotus flower signifies the human nature and the state of enlightenment. The gemstone silver exemplifies the hope, unconditional love, meditation, mystic visions, tenderness, kindness, sensitivities and psychic abilities that are closer to the love of a mother. Likewise, Robes originally reflects the ideals of a life of poverty and simplicity in Buddhism.

The Kashaya are especially worn by Buddhist monk wrapped to cover the left shoulder. The Antaravasaka is wrapped around the waist like a Sarong and high-slit pants for covering the body.

The Sanghats is an extra rode or shawl that can be wrapped around the upper body for warmth. Since sentient beings have countless suffering, she manifested herself in a form with eleven heads, a thousand arms and generates innumerable bodies to decrease the misery of human beings.
