Local Education Unit (LEU) Coordinator

Rural Education and Environment Development Center (REED Nepal) was established in 2000 AD with an aim to improve the quality of education in the community Schools of Nepal. Currently, we are working in 23 districts, across Nepal, to enhance the quality education and environment in right based approaches and protect children/girls from all forms of abuses, sexual exploitation, including trafficking, and so on. It has recently started to expand its sectorial and regional areas of operation focusing on Education, School Constructions, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Management. REED initiated its activities targeting the Himalayan regions of Nepal but has started working in Terai region as well.

REED Nepal, in collaboration with Chemonics International and with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is recently engaged in the implementation of the “Early Grade Learning (EGL)” initiative across selected districts in Bagmati and Koshi Provinces. Position Description: Local Education Unit (LEU) Coordinator, 16 Person (two positions for each district) of Khotang, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Taplejung, Rasuwa, Bhaktapur, Sindhupalchok and Sindhuli

Academic Qualification, Experience and skills: Bachelor’s degree (preferably master’s degree) in education, development studies, gender and development or other social science with 5 years of experience in local level education project delivery. Experience working in programs related to inclusive education, early grade reading, democracy and governance in education, disability and inclusion, and capacity development etc. Exceptional oral and written communication skills in both Nepali and English, facilitating transparent and impactful exchanges across linguistic boundaries. Basic proficiency in digital literacy required. Candidates are required to possess a valid two-wheel driving license. Candidates with specific experience in managing USAID-funded projects will be accorded additional preference. Ability to work in diverse and multi- cultural working environment. Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with government counterparts, local organizations, and other program and partners.

  • All children have equal rights to protection from abuse and exploitation.
  • Everyone has a responsibility to support the care and protection of children.
  • Children are actors in their own protection and development, which does not exempt parents and educators from their responsibilities.
  • In addition to child protection, REED Nepal is committed to the prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation. The employee should be able to provide a Police Clearance Certificate and sign our Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
  • Should an employee pose an unacceptable risk to children, REED Nepal is committed to preventing that employee from working with children.  Where suspicions have been raised that a member of personnel has contravened the related policies and codes of conduct, the organization can suspend or transfer to other duties any employee who is under investigation and dismiss any employee after an investigation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities  

To accomplish these goals, the Local Education Unit (LEU) Coordinator will be responsible for implementing activities at the Municipal and school levels and for collecting data for each relevant District.  They will be responsible for liaising with the local government Education Units, the District Education Development Coordination Unit (EDCU), and other key stakeholders and professional networks to coordinate and effectively integrate activities with local government activities.  This will be achieved by developing effective and productive working relationships with all district and local government counterparts. The coordinator will report to his/her Manager, will work under the guidance of the provincial technical team and will ensure effective service delivery. They will follow and observe all technical and operational management guidelines, processes, and procedures for the effective implementation of all activities at the municipal and school levels to ensure delivery of quality services.
