Terms of Reference for the Designing and Printing of Product Catalogue for 

Pokhara Women’s Skill Development Pvt. Ltd.(PWSD)

  1. Background:

Fair Trade Group (FTG) Nepal is a consortium of fair trading organizations in Nepal. It seeks to promote the advancement of the socio-economic status of underprivileged and marginalized producers across the country. It was formally registered as a non-trading not for profit NGO in 1996. Member organizations of FTG Nepal are involved in supporting producers and raising awareness towards influencing change in the international trade regime. At present, more than 10,000 underprivileged producers and 45,000 producers are directly and indirectly benefiting through FTG Nepal and its members.

  1. Rationale

FTG Nepal with support from Oxfam in Nepal, through its Pokhara Handicraft Enterprise Project is supporting Pokhara Women’s Skill Development Pvt. Ltd.(PWSD), Pokhara, to increase their production and revenue by capacitating existing and new vulnerable/marginalized women producers. The project aims to improve their business to create mass impact to improve the living condition of vulnerable women that will be engaged with them through this project.

Pokhara Women’s Skill Development (PWSD) Pvt. Ltd., located in Pokhara, works with women artisan offering training and inputs as well as marketing the handicrafts items they produce. PWSD provides employment to over 400 women both in-house and home based producers. PWSD has good market base and have huge unmet demand that has not been fulfilled due to lack of skilled manpower. Thus, through this project PWSD will engage and employ more vulnerable women to fulfil the demand by providing them with various skills based training. PWSD will also be provided support through this project to strengthen their organizational capacity.

One of the main objectives of the project is to support PWSD in establishing linkages with various domestic and international vendors for marketing their handicraft products and ultimately increasing their revenue. The core element that PWSD requires before reaching out to potential vendors is the product catalogue, a book that contains details about the handicraft products and their variety that PWSD has developed. Thus, there is the need of designing, developing and printing attractive product catalogue that can fulfil the information requirement of various vendors and stakeholders.

  1. Objective and Scope of work

The objective of this consultancy is to design, develop and print product catalogue of around 150handicraft products produced by Pokhara Women Skill Development Pvt. Ltd by capturing relevant photographs, short stories and creative contents to be included in the catalogue.

The consultant will take overall responsibility of taking photographs, information collection, preparation, creative designing and editing of the catalogue. The consultant will receive other ‘written scripts’ required for catalogue through PWSD. The entire development and production process will be closely monitored by FTG Nepal office providing continuous review, comments and inputs support when needed.

The consultant will share draft of the product catalogue and incorporate all the feedbacks provided by FTG Nepal. The product catalogue should be such that it fulfils the need of PWSD and supports it in marketing of their products to national and international vendors.

  1. Deliverable
  • Creative and attractive product catalogue design including product description of around150 handicraft products to be submitted in digital copy;
  • High quality printing of the copies of the same.
  1. Methodology

The task demands field visits and interactions with related project beneficiaries and stakeholders. The Consultant shall propose a set of methods in the methodology part of her/his technical proposal. Basically, the following methods will be used to collect the information:

  • Field visit to corporate office of PWSD in Pokhara
  • Revisit existing documents and other publications
  • Interviews with key personnel and producers of PWSD
  • Conduct creative photography of each product
  • Collection of short stories

The selected consultant will work in closely with FTG Nepal to refine the methodology and develop a detailed work plan.

Tentative work plan:

The whole process should include the following phases:

  • Phase 1: Work plan development from the consultant(s) and finalization,
  • Phase 2: Field visit, photo shoot of products, collection of information
  • Phase 3: Designing, editing and development of product catalogue
  • Phase 4: Submission of draft, incorporation of feedback and finalization of Catalogue
  • Phase 5: Printing of the Catalogue

The selected consultant will work closely with FTG Nepal to refine the methodology and develop a detailed work plan.

The Consultant should complete and submit the following documents with her/his proposal:

  1. A brief technical proposal, duly completed and signed by the Consultant; to FTG Nepal. The technical proposal should include methodology, work and process plan and an updated CV of the proposed Consultant(s).

iii. C.V. highlighting the Consultant’s experience in the specific field of the services and his/her specific experience in the country/region where the task are to be performed;

The Consultant should also provide all relevant information; documents and references, which give evidence of his/her qualifications to carry out the task.

The Consultant whose proposal is accepted shall provide, if so requested by the Contracting Authority, copies of academic qualifications and employers’ certificates or references proving her/his education, professional experience.

  1. Qualification/Skills required
  • Sound knowledge of creative photography, IEC materials development and designing
  • Good understanding of marketing and proven experience of designing promotional marketing materials and content for corporate organizations
  • Proven experience of stories collection through high quality shooting and documentation skills
  • Consultant(s) should have PAN, VAT registration and Tax Clearance certificates.
  1. Time

The duration of the consultancy will be a total of 30 days including fieldwork. Fieldwork will be started lately by 20, January 2019. The Consultant will submit the initial draft of the report by 4 February 2019 and the final report by the 8 February 2019. The prints of the catalogue will be delivered by 18 February 2019.

  1. Deliverable and payment distribution:

Payments of total budget will be processed in two instalments upon delivery of the following product along with the invoice as below:

  • 40% after the finalization of detailed timeline, work plan and draft outline;
  • 60% after the submission of the catalogue in digital copy to FTG Nepal.
  1. Confidentiality

During the performance of the assignment or at any time after expiry or termination of the agreement, the Consultant shall not disclose to any person or otherwise make use of any confidential information which she/he has obtained or may obtain in the course of the task relating to PWSD and FTGN, the respondents or otherwise.
