In the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, CA’s humanitarian programme has progressively reached out to the most vulnerable people of the country in the earthquake affected districts of Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, and flood prone districts of Banke, Bardiya and Dang through programmes focused on Emergency Relief, Recovery, Early Warning, Disaster Risk Reduction, Protection, Clean Energy, Livelihoods, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Monitoring, strengthening the community resilience and aiming for long term sustainable development.
Christian Aid is currently implementing new Country Programme with transition from humanitarian response during mega- earthquake to long term sustainable development needs of the earthquake affected and other vulnerable communities. CA works with local civil society organisations with focus on three workstreams- Resilient Livelihoods, GESI and DRR/ Humanitarian Response, following Leave no one behind and Human Rights Based Approach. Country Programme is currently implemented in 6 districts of Nepal – Dhading, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Khotang, Bardia and Kailali, with an ambition to grow and support most marginalised discriminated communities for resilience.
About the role
Communications Advisor is core programme and communication function in country team needed to support in documentation, sharing knowledge and learning across organisation and stakeholders, guide the communication and advocacy documents of Nepal office, facilitate donor visits and compliances related to visibility and branding and support other AME offices as and when required.
The Communications Advisor works within the Country team and reports to the Country Director. S/he will also provide communication surge support in times of need as requested by the Humanitarian Division. The post holder champions the use of social media and leads the policy advocacy work by ensuring key messages for country office. S/he will be part of Communication group of AIN and interact with key stakeholders, provides content for digital channels and leads the production process for the CA Nepal brochures, workstream updates, newsletter, half yearly progress report, annual report and other donor specific reports.
About you
- Educated to degree level or equivalent. Experience in communications, marketing, public relations or journalism with preferred professional experience of minimum 3 years in INGOs.
- Good editorial skills. Highly proficient in written English language and able to translate complexities into material that is compelling, jargon-free and accessible.
- Able to assimilate high volumes of content quickly and optimise for distribution across Christian Aid channels.
- Writing for web experience and an aptitude in SEO optimisation principles and content management system.
- A social media champion with experience of using Twitter and Facebook to drive an organisation’s engagement with key audiences.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills matched with high levels of visual literacy and creativity.
- Proven ability to handle information of a sensitive nature in a manner which does not compromise the programme or partners.
- Excellent time and project management coupled with high levels of multi-tasking and situational awareness.
- Ability to travel to field sites and be available for surge deployments
