OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objective of the WHO Nepal Country Office is to implement the Country Cooperation Strategy by supporting the Nepal Government in formulation, implementation and evaluation of national health policies, strategies and plans and developing and managing WHO’s technical cooperation programmes at the country level. WHO provides guidance and technical support in organizing the humanitarian health response following emergencies and in revitalizing the capacity of the health sector to rebuild and recover from emergencies in appropriate and sustainable ways. The Country Office collaborates with the Government of Nepal and relevant stakeholders in support of their efforts of achieving national health goals; of ensuring the attainment of universal health coverage and of contributing to global and regional public health action by providing need-based technical assistance in national level policy formulation, setting norms and standards, improving knowledge dissemination and management, monitoring country health situation and building sustainable institutional capacity, to play a greater leadership role in different national level policy and technical forums.
Within this framework, this specific position will support NTP in effective operation of a comprehensive Tuberculosis Programme according to country context and in line with Regional and Global approaches and develop plans for implementation and help NTP in execution of monitoring and evaluation of TB control activities to achieve the End-TB targets.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of WHO Representative to Nepal and close supervision of Scientist -Communicable Disease Programme, the incumbent will work as National Professional Officer in which capacity he/she will perform the following duties.
1. Assist National TB Programme/Ministry of Health to the develop and implement strategic and operational plans, manuals and guidelines for TB and DR-TB while ensuring that these are in line with WHO recommendations and NTP/MoHP long term plans.
2. Support NTP and its partners in developing training materials and human resource development.
3. Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of the TB programme performance and impact measurement towards reaching global targets for Ending TB and meeting the SDG goals.
4. Initiate and maximize collaboration with all concerned public and private sector partners.
5. Support strengthening of the national laboratory network and introduction of new diagnostics, quality control systems, drugs resistance surveillance and encourage coordination between National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) and other relevant partners.
6. Support development of guidelines, planning, scaleup, monitoring and evaluation of Drug Resistant TB programme.
7. Assist in development and updating of TB Infection Control (TB IC) guidelines, training materials, guidelines for TB response in Disaster situation and support their implementation.
8. Support implementation of TB dug resistance survey (TB-DRS)
9. Provide support for efficient and streamlined drug management.
10. Advise on priorities for and relevance and design of operational research projects to enhance delivery, acceptance of services and programme performance.
11. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisors.
REMUNERATION
Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at NPR 2,870,937 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
